Sean Spicer Says He’s “Relieved” to Be Eliminated from ‘Dancing with the Stars’

No more Mr. Spice guy. On Monday, former White House press secretary Sean Spicer was finally eliminated on Dancing with the Stars after weeks of low ratings. The DWTS judges have been attempting to boot Spicer for weeks, but viewers at home have stood by him — until this week, when they saw his disastrous tango performance set to Destiny Child’s “Bills, Bills, Bills.” After he was eliminated, the former Trump official told People that he’s “somewhat disappointed” with the end result, but he’s also “relieved” to be heading home. “The judges made the right decision,” said Spicer.

This week, Spicer again performed with Jenna Johnson, who stepped in to replace his regular partner Lindsay Arnold after she had a sudden death in the family. The duo took advantage of the night’s theme, Boy Bands and Girl Groups, to perform an Argentine tango to “Bills, Bills, Bills” that can be described as “people moving very slowly in neon outfits.” Why do the DWTS stylists keep dressing Spicer in bright green?

While the judges were slightly nicer this week, they still had plenty of criticism for Spicer’s moves. “Don’t cry for Sean, Argentina. The truth is, you tried very hard,” said Bruno Tonioli, according to Yahoo. “You’re competing with people who are better than you, but you do try hard.” Carrie Ann Inaba also praised his “effort,” but said that if he wants to “improve the dance, what’s missing is the artistry.” Len Goodman didn’t even bother with a half-hearted compliment. “The best thing about it, it wasn’t very long,” he said. “It was just walking about, it was a series of walking about… I can’t even comment on it. I didn’t like it.”

Spicer and Johnson were awarded a 26 out of 40 — an improvement on last week, but not enough to save them. At the end of the show, they were sent packing. “Thanks to everyone who supported me,” said the former press secretary as the final credits rolled. “I’ve loved being on this show. Thank you for making me part of it.”

After the show, Spicer told People that he has “mixed” feelings about the elimination: he’s both “relieved” and “somewhat disappointed” to be booted off DWTS. “The judges made the right decision on a night where you had two dances,” he said. “The scores were going to be very difficult to overcome.”

Spicer also thanked President Trump for the weeks of encouragement. “It means a lot,” he said of the president’s tweets (which likely kept him on the show for an extra few weeks). “I appreciate his support and his continued friendship. It means a tremendous amount to me to know that he’s taking time to put his support out there. I thank him for that.” Spicer also thanked Donald Trump Jr. for the backup, saying, “There’s been a tremendous amount of support that’s kept me out of the bottom two the last nine weeks and I’ve truly been humbled by how many people have taken time out of their Monday nights to keep me going.”

Dancing with the Stars airs every Monday at 8/7c on ABC. Watch Spicer’s final performance above.
