Where to Stream:

Hot on the heels of Disney launching their highly anticipated streaming service Disney+, Netflix made a big deal with one of the few companies able to compete with the Mouse House in the animated space: Nickelodeon. Netflix and Nickelodeon have been working together for a while, but the new deal means more kids content for the streaming service, an important weapon in its arsenal as the streaming wars heat up.

In fact, before we discuss what Nickelodeon shows are coming to Netflix, it’s probably a good idea to give a rundown of how this all falls out. Disney, of course, has Star Wars, Marvel, Pixar, Nat Geo, and all their assorted Disney Princess and other cartoons. They also have The Muppets, though HBO, which will be part of WarnerMedia’s HBO Max service, has Sesame Street. And of course Peacock, the upcoming streaming service from NBC, has every kid’s favorite show: The Office.

But Netflix has Nickelodeon shows, and that’s a very big deal. Also a weird deal, as Viacom — which owns Nickelodeon — is once again merging with CBS, which has its own streaming service, CBS All Access. The latter will be launching children’s programming as well, but for now, if you want to catch future editions SpongeBob you’ll need a subscription to Netflix.

With that in mind, what Nickelodeon shows are coming to Netflix? Here, let me put it in a larger font, so you know I mean it:

What Nickelodeon Shows Are Coming To Netflix?

Seems pretty serious now, doesn’t it? The first slate will include specials based on The Loud House and Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. This is in line with what the two companies have done previously, airing revivals of classic Nickelodeon properties with Invader Zim: Enter the Florpus and Rocko’s Modern Life: Static Cling. And according to The New York Times, there will also be a spinoff of SpongeBob Squarepants focusing on the grumpy octopus Squidward. Fingers crossed it’ll be a TV series where he gives clarinet lessons.

What Nickelodeon Shows Are On Netflix Right Now?

Great question, reader, and the answer is: there is actually a good assortment of Nickelodeon programming currently on Netflix. A quick search shows that live-action shows and movies including VictoriousSam & Cat, Bella and the Bulldogs, The Boy Who Cried Werewolf, Jinxed, Big Time Movie, 100 Things To Do Before High School, A Fairly Odd Summer, and Liar Liar Vampire are all watchable at this very second. You can also watch the 2016 short movie remake of Legends of the Hidden Temple, a few of the Rugrats movies, and more.

Back at the beginning of Netflix, you could check out shows like SpongeBob and Dora the Explorer, but that deal lapsed in 2013. Whether this new deal — which reportedly may have netted Viacom $200 million — will lead to those shows and others coming back to Netflix, remains to be seen. Until then, we’ll just be watching Enter the Florpus on a loop.
