‘A Christmas Prince’ is Expecting: Netflix Releases ‘The Royal Baby’ Trailer

The extended Christmas Prince universe (the CPU, if you will) is expanding. Today, Netflix released the official trailer for A Christmas Prince: The Royal Baby, the third film in its holiday movie franchise. As the name suggests, the Netflix Original movie follows the new King and Queen of Aldovia as they prepare for the birth of their first child, but first, they must prevent an ancient curse from striking down the entire kingdom. You know, normal Christmas stuff.

Like the first two films, A Christmas Prince: The Royal Baby continues to tell the story of Amber (Rose McIver) and Prince Richard (Ben Lamb), now King and Queen of Aldovia — a sister nation of The Princess Diaries‘ Genovia, I have to imagine. When Amber becomes pregnant, the royals are ecstatic… until they learn that a historic peace treaty has gone missing, threatening the kingdom. In order to prevent an ancient curse from snatching away their first born, Amber and Richard set out on a Clue-style search to uncover which of their party guests “had the means, the opportunity, and the motive” to steal the treaty. While Netflix’s Christmas Prince movies may be shamelessly ripping off Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s love story, I’m guessing that they didn’t have to deal with stakes quite this high before Archie’s birth.

In addition to McIver and Lamb, the bulk of the Christmas Prince cast will return to reprise their roles in the Royal Baby sequel. Richard Aston and Sarah Douglas will return as Mr. Little and Mrs. Averill, respectively, while Thairah Sharif (Melissa) and Joel McVeagh (Andy) will also appear. Viewers should also expect a few Christmas Prince newcomers in the form of the Panglian delegation, whose members don’t seem too fond of the treaty in question. Considering that whole “ancient curse” thing, can you really blame them?

A Christmas Prince: The Royal Baby hits Netflix on Thursday, December 5. Watch the official trailer above.
