Patti LaBelle Unmasked as The Flower on ‘The Masked Singer’

That’s how The Flower crumbles. On Wednesday night, The Masked Singer said goodbye to its floral character, who has the unique honor of being the most disturbing contestant on the whosungit’s second season. Who was unmasked on The Masked Singer Season 2? After an intense face-off with three other contestants, The Flower wilted under the pressure, and at the end of the show, she was revealed to be… iconic singer Patti LaBelle.

Tonight, The Masked Singer brought back Joel McHale as a guest panelist, and he once again managed to save the show from its own worst impulses. McHale & Co. were tasked with evaluating four different performances — in two head-to-head battles — from The Flamingo, Leopard, Flower, and Rottweiler. The Flower performed in the second half of the show, but first, she offered a few new clues about her identity. Her latest clue package revealed that she’s loved “getting to do what [she loves] like never before,” suggesting that she has a background in singing. “Like a bud to a bloom, in my career, I’m always changing,” she said. The Flower’s package also featured perfume, dominos, a disco ball, and a reference to the Rolling Stones. “I may have a legendary aura surrounding me, but tonight, I’m going to show that my voice alone can carry me to the finals,” she added.

The Flower went on to perform “Alone” by Heart, and the panel praised her strong vocals and unique voice (which turned out to be a decoy, as she later revealed that she purposefully changed her voice to confuse viewers). Jenny McCarthy suggested legend Patti Labelle, and Robin Thicke agreed, citing the Patty Cake reference in the clue package. Guest judge McHale insisted that The Flower is Barbra Streisand, while Ken Jeong guessed the “Queen of Disco” Björk.

The panel didn’t have to wait long to get their answer. The Flower lost to The Rottweiler, and after a Smackdown Battle with The Leopard, she was eliminated. Finally, The Flower took off her mask, revealing none other than Patti LaBelle. After getting totally stumped by Kelly Osbourne last week, the judges have officially redeemed themselves.
