‘The Masked Singer’ Fans React to Shocking Elimination: “How Y’all Pick This Dog Over THEE Patti LaBelle”

The Masked Singer lives and dies by its fans, but the Fox singing competition may have gone a step too far. On Wednesday night, the reality show eliminated The Flower, who was later revealed to be “Godmother of Soul” Patti LaBelle. LaBelle’s elimination was met with shock and anger from fans, and many questioned how the — let’s stress this again — singing competition could do the legendary performer so dirty. “Chris Daughtry beat Patti LaBelle?!?” asked one viewer, referencing The Flower’s face off with The Rottweiler (many think that the dog is American Idol alum Daughtry). “In what life time?!”

Viewers have been (correctly) guessing The Flower’s identity for weeks, but no one was expecting LaBelle to be eliminated on Wednesday night. In the first half of the show, The Flower squared off with The Rottweiler, but her rendition of “Alone” by Heart didn’t wow the audience (literally HOW), and she was voted into the bottom two. After a Smackdown Battle with The Leopard, the floral character was voted off. Before she took off her mask, the panel got in a few final guesses, and almost all of them guessed correctly — with the exception of Ken Jeong, who continued to guess “Queen of Disco” Björk.

As you can imagine, viewers weren’t too happy that “THEE Patti LaBelle” came in eighth place on The Masked Singer Season 2. Fans took issue with The Flower’s initial loss to The Rottweiler, who sounded good, but not Patti LaBelle good. “How can y’all send Patti home this early?” tweeted one viewer. “How y’all pick this dog over THEE Patti LaBelle?” asked another. “In what life time?!” wrote another.

While viewers may have bee upset about the elimination, LaBelle revealed that she’s “kind of happy” to be leaving. “I miss my little puppy,” revealed the iconic performer. “This was challenging. The most challenging thing I’ve ever done in my life.”

The Masked Singer will take a week off for Thanksgiving (a re-run will air in its place) before returning Wednesday, December 4 at 8/7c on Fox.
