The Original ‘Black Christmas’ Is Streaming Free, For Campy Holiday Horror

There’s something for everyone in theaters this weekend: The Oscar-buzzy Uncut Gems and Bombshell, the dumb-but-fun action sequel Jumanji: The Next Level, and—for those looking for holiday-themed slasher fun—the remake of the 1974 cult horror film, Black Christmas.

From Blumhouse Productions, the studio known for low-budget horror flicks like Paranormal Activity and Happy Death Day, this is technically the second remake of Black Christmas. Directed by Sophia Takal, who also co-wrote the script with April Wolfe, this remake stars Imogen Poots, Aleyse Shannon, Lilly Donghue and Brittany O’Grady as sorority sisters hunted down by a mysterious stalker. (The 2006 Black Christmas, from director Glen Morgan, starred Katie Cassidy and Michelle Trachtenberg.)

For the uninitiated, the 1974 Black Christmas is often considered one of the earliest slasher films ever made. Though it received some not-so-great reviews when it first came out, it since gained a cult following, and even partially inspired John Carpetenter’s more famous 1978 slasher, Halloween. The film stars Olivia Hussey, Keir Dullea, Margot Kidder, and Andrea Martin as sorority girls who received lewd, threatening phone calls from an unknown villain who stalks and murders them. It is, as Decider’s Meghan O’Keefe says, “a bonkers must-watch.” But how? What’s the best way to watch Black Christmas (1974)?

Can you stream the original Black Christmas movie?

Yes! Black Christmas may be a low-budget slasher Canadian film from the ’70s, but thanks to a cult following and a reputation as one of the horror greats, it’s also available to stream pretty much anywhere you can find a major studio film. That means you can buy or rent a copy on Amazon Prime, YouTube, Google Play, iTunes, or wherever you prefer to stream.

Can you stream the original Black Christmas movie for free?

Yes! Even better news: If you don’t mind a few commercials, you can watch the 1974 Black Christmas totally free on both TubiTV and Vudu. Wahoo!

Is Black Christmas on Netflix? Is Black Christmas on Hulu?

No. Despite Netflix’s plethora of holiday content, Black Christmas is not on the streaming service. Black Christmas is also not on Hulu (unless you have a Live TV subscription). But again, it’s streaming free on both Tubi and Vudu. No subscription needed. Enjoy the festive murder!
