Is ‘Little Women’ on Netflix? Where to Watch the 1994 Film

There are a lot of new movies to watch this holiday season, but for many, the main event is Little Women, which opens in theaters on Christmas day.

Directed by Lady Bird‘s Greta Gerwig, and starring Lady Bird‘s Saoirse Ronan, the 2019 Little Women is actually the eighth film adaption of Louisa May Alcott’s classic 1868 novel. There were two silent film versions in 1917 and 1918, a pre-code 1933 film starring Katharine Hepburn, and a 1949 remake of the Hepburn film, this time with a young Elizabeth Taylor. In 2018, a small independent adaptation was also released, featuring, most notably, High School Musical‘s Lucas Grabeel as Laurie Lawrence.

But the version of Little Women that millennials likely know best is the 1994 Little Women. Directed by Gillian Armstrong, it stars Winona Ryder as Jo, Trini Alvarado as Meg, Kirsten Dunst as Amy, and Claire Danes as Beth.

It’s a true classic, and, like Gerwig’s new adaptation, was critically acclaimed, earning a Best Actress nomination for Ryder at the Oscars. If you’re going to watch any version of Little Women after you watch Gerwig’s new film, make it this one. But how? Is Little Women (1994) on Netflix? Read on to find out.
