New Movies on Demand: ‘Maleficent: Mistress of Evil,’ ‘Primal,’ and More

Happy New Year, everyone! You have officially made it to the first weekend of 2020, and for that we congratulate you. Unfortunately, now that the holiday season is over, it is time to get back to reality and the grind of everyday life. But that does not mean the weekends can’t be just as entertaining and fun as they were during “the most wonderful time of the year!” And whether you use Amazon Video, iTunes, Vudu or your cable’s on demand service, there will always be new movies out there for you to discover, no matter how large or small the batch may be.

We acknowledge that this week’s list is not a big one, but that does not make it any less worthy because this weekend you can purchase Disney’s Maleficent: Mistress of Evil on demand. The sequel to the 2014 reimagination of the classic fairytale, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil follows Maleficent and her goddaughter Aurora into uncharted territory when they have to *gasp* plan a wedding and try to bring two families together! However, things get even more complicated when what was supposed to symbolize a union between the fae and humankind turns into a war that forces our two heroines against each other. If you are in the mood for an old-fashioned Nicolas Cage action film, then be sure to check out Primal, now available to rent. This thriller film stars Cage as a hunter and exotic animal collector who must stalk down a new prey when his prized lion — en route to a zoo in America —  is set free by a political assassin imprisoned on the same boat.

Curious about what else is out there? Check out what other dramas, thrillers and fantasy films you can buy or rent this week. And we get it, this list may not completely satisfy your appetite, so make sure to check out what is new on streaming services like Netflix, Prime Video, Hulu, and more as well!

Maleficent: Mistress of Evil

Angelina Jolie is back as the sorceress of all sorceresses in Maleficent: Mistress of Evil. Set after the events of the original Sleeping Beauty tale, Mistress of Evil centers on Maleficent and her goddaughter Aurora as they prepare for the princess’s upcoming marriage to Prince Philip. As intricate family ties threaten to pull the two apart, much darker forces dividing man and fae will force the two women to pick sides, making them question if they can live happily-ever-after as a family ever again. Also starring Elle Fanning, Michelle Pfeiffer, Sam Riley and more, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil adds new depth to the classic fairy tale in ways unseen before.

Primal

Unleash your animal side in Primal, the new Nicolas Cage action thriller. When hunter and exotic animal collector Frank Walsh (Cage) captures a rare white tiger for a zoo, he is over the moon in anticipation of his big payday. But the ship carrying his prize animal has another predator caged in its hold: a master political assassin being extradited to the U.S. to serve for his crimes. And when the assassin breaks free — and sets loose the tiger — Frank must stalk his prey through cramped hallways and watery corridors in a hunt to die for — literally. But this time, who is his prey?
