Tim Allen Has Already Made a Transphobic Joke at the Golden Globes

Well that didn’t take long. It only took Tim Allen five seconds to make a transphobic joke and a joke about PC culture at the 2020 Golden Globes. The best part? He did it all a solid hour and a half before the awards show even began.

During Facebook Watch’s pre-show for the 77th Annual Golden Globe Awards, Allen was asked a fairly straightforward question: which award are you presenting? The actor and comedian immediately shot back with “best human with a prostate.” He then doubled down on his point to the discomfort of his interviewers, saying that he was just trying to make his answers as “PC as possible.”

Based on the response on Twitter, not everyone caught Allen’s comments. But the few that did certainly weren’t pleased:

Ignoring those clunky digs at being inclusive, the former Golden Globe winner is presenting the Best Actor award for a very impressive line up. On the film side, 2020 is shaping up to be the year of Netflix with Marriage Story and The Irishman raking up six and five nominations each. On the television side Chernobyl, The Crown, and Unbelievable are tied with four nominations a piece. As for exactly which best actors were honored tonight, it’s an impressive list.

On the best TV comedy front, Michael Douglass and Bill Hader were nominated for The Kominsky Method and Barry respectively. Game of Thrones‘ Kit Harrington, Pose’s Billy Porter, and Mr. Robot‘s Rami Malek represent TV’s best dramatic men. And the film side is even more impressive with Christian Bale (Ford v Fererri), Adam Driver (Marriage Story), Joaquin Phoenix (Joker), Leonardo DiCaprio (One Upon a Time … in Hollywood), Eddie Murphy (Dolemite Is My Name), and Daniel Craig (Knives Out) coming out for the first big awards show of the year. Ill-timed and petty jokes aside, it’s a big night for Hollywood.
