A new season of your favorite guessing game is right around the corner with a brand new panelist. At the Television Critics Association’s 2020 winter tour, Fox announced that The Masked Singer will be singing and dancing into Season 3 with Beat Shazam host and executive producer Jamie Foxx as one of its panelists. And since this new season will premiere right after the Super Bowl, you’re in for a night full of excitement and unexpected results.
Foxx will join Ken Jeong, Jenny McCarthy, Nicole Scherzinger and Robin Thicke on Sunday, February 2 in a match made in crazy game show heaven. Foxx’s own show Beat Shazam is a whirlwind of insanity. Each episode contestants are played a short clip of a song and challenged to “beat” the music identification app. Meanwhile, The Masked Singer requires a whole different type of guessing. The Fox reality game show features a group of unknown costumed celebrities singing their hearts out. Each week the losing singer is unmasked, revealing the celebrity underneath. These are two wacky, fun music game shows that deserve to be together.

And true to its ambitious Super Bowl lead in, The Masked Singer is cranking things up for its third season. Instead of showcasing 12 contestants like in Season 1 or 16 like in Season 2, this new season of the series will feature a whopping 18 undercover celebrities. To account for this larger group, this season will be employing a slightly different format, according to a press release from Fox:

“Group A will kick off the first three episodes as they are whittled down to three singers, taking off masks as they go. Then Group B will take the stage as they go from six to three, then Group C. The final nine masked contestants from all three groups will then come together as they continue to battle for the Golden Mask Trophy.”
That’s not all. We also have an idea of which crazy characters we can expect to see this season. Get ready to fall in love with The Robot, The Frog, The Banana, The Mouse, The Llama, and an interesting addition by the name of Miss Monster.
The Masked Singer Season 3 will premiere after Super Bowl LIV on Sunday, February 2 at 10:30/9:30c p.m. It will then premiere another episode on Wednesday, February 5 at 8/7c p.m. and continue to live in that time slot for the rest of the season. The Llama, whoever you are, we can’t wait to meet you.
