Is ‘Riverdale’ On Tonight? When Does ‘Riverdale’ Come Back On?

When last we left the citizens of The CW’s Riverdale, they had decided to move on from the murder of Jason Blossom (Trevor Stines), while the upcoming “death” of Jughead Jones (Cole Sprouse) lurks menacingly in the future. Oh, and speaking of the future… When does Riverdale come back to our television screens?

The short answer is, Riverdale is not on tonight, January 8, 2020, and I’m extremely sorry you won’t be able to watch teens get murdered in a fun, sexy way this evening. Well, sort of. At 8/7c on The CW you can watch a rerun of the Riverdale midseason finale, “Chapter Sixty-Six: Tangerine.” In the episode, we find out that Betty Cooper (Lili Reinhart) has been brainwashed thanks to a mental trigger implanted by cult The Farm, Jughead finally meets his missing grandfather Forsythe Pendleton Jones (Timothy Webber), Archie Andrews (KJ Apa) reached a breaking point in his battle with the villainous Dodger (Juan Riedinger), and I honestly don’t remember what was happening with Veronica Luna/Lodge (Camila Mendes). Maybe something about clashing with her father Hiram Lodge (Mark Consuelos), I am going to guess? Listen, it’s been a long few weeks.

The big event, though, was Cheryl Blossom (Madelaine Petsch) discovering she’s been gaslighted by her mother Penelope Blossom (Nathalie Boltt), who was subsequently locked in a sex bunker. She also set her brother’s corpse on fire, and together with her girlfriend Toni Topaz (Vanessa Morgan) turned over a new leaf.

We also briefly met Uncle Frank (Ryan Robbins), Fred Andrews’ (Luke Perry) brother who previously hasn’t been mentioned, and got teased that maybe Betty Cooper is the one who ends up killing Jughead Jones. Given he’s almost certainly not actually dead in these flash-forward sequences, there’s probably another explanation. Just saying.

After the re-airing of “Tangerine,” there’s a repeat of Nancy Drew, “The Hidden Staircase,” at 9/8c, so that’s January 8 sorted. But what is the Riverdale return date? When does Riverdale come back? And have I packed this post with enough SEO terms that it’ll get cached in Google? Gosh, I hope so.

On January 15, in lieu of a new episode of Riverdale, The CW will air a special titled The CW Dog Honors, and if they don’t include Hot Dog and Vegas, I’m going to riot.

Then, finally, Riverdale Season 4, Episode 10, “Chapter Sixty-Seven: Varsity Blues,” airs on Wednesday, January 22 at 8/7c. As you might expect from the title, the kids get back to playing football. But will their touchdowns be criminal??? I honestly do not know, but we have some speculation, based on the synopsis.

…oh, right, Veronica brought back her Abuelita to slap Hiram, and then threw one last blowout at La Bonne Nuit, and aced her Columbia interview. Now I remember. Good stuff.
