Nancy Pelosi Booked For Friday’s ‘Real Time With Bill Maher’ Season Premiere On HBO

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi has been booked as the top-of-the-show guest for Friday’s (January 17, 2020) 18th season premiere of HBO‘s Real Time with Bill Maher (a show that our president claims to watch “by accident”) and the timing could not be more perfect. Pelosi just announced yesterday that the articles of impeachment against Donald Trump will go to the Senate next week.

The show, which has both drawn controversy and become a late-night political mainstay over the years, is taped in Los Angeles and airs live at 10 PM EST. Pelosi, who was first elected to Congress in 1987, has led House Democrats since 2004 according to Deadline.

She is the very first female Speaker of the House, making her the highest-ranking female official ever elected in U.S. history and currently third in line for the presidency (after Mike Pence).

Trump has made it clear that he is not a fan of Pelosi and has claimed that she is the Democratic face of the impeachment proceedings. On Thursday, Pelosi held the gavel at a House vote to approve a War Powers Resolution with the sole purpose of taking congressional control and revoking the Trump administration’s military powers after the recent Iran attacks.

Trump was not too thrilled about this, as you can imagine, and took to Twitter to express his dismay:

Friday’s episode of Real Time with Bill Maher also will feature a mid-show interview with Democratic presidential candidate Andrew Yang, whose campaign cornerstone is a “universal basic income payment” of $1,000 a month for every American — a “Freedom Dividend” aimed to compensate workers for the decrease in job availability due to technological automation.

The show’s panelists will also include Joe Walsh, Kara Swisher and Jon Meachum. Last season, Maher ended his finale with a few words regarding his approach to American politics. In his remarks, Maher claimed there was a “sh*tstorm coming for America,” however expressed a desire to maneuver his comedy more towards helpful banter and less towards insulting the president and his cronies.

“I have learned that the anti-intellectualism on the right doesn’t come primarily through stupidity it comes from hate,” Maher said. “Telling people that you think they’re irredeemable is what makes them say ‘You know what, I’d rather side with Russia than you.’”
