Starz ended the Droughtlander with an in-depth panel on Outlander Season 5 during their Winter 2020 TCA presentation. However, the coolest moment of the night might have come at the Starz after-party. Decider got to talk one-on-one with Outlander heartthrob Sam Heughan about his latest favorite binge: Cheer on Netflix.

Yep, since Cheer debuted last week on Netflix, it’s garnered all sorts of hip fans from Chrissy Teigen to Jamie Fraser himself, Sam Heughan. In the days leading up to TCA, Heughan was tweeting a bunch about his love of Netflix’s new docuseries. (He even shared a Decider article on the series. We’re not excited, just blogging about it, LOL.) So when Decider asked Heughan about his little Cheer storm on social media at a Starz sponsored TCA afterparty, he said, “Cheer? Oh, obsessed.”

We had to ask: “What about it do you love?”

Quickly he said, “JERRY.” Then added, “All of them! Morgan, Lexi, I’ve stalked them on Instagram. I want the best for these kids.”

When Decider admitted they were worried about Lexi, Heughan quickly said, “I’m so worried about Lexi, but I think she’s going to be okay.”

Heughan said, “I loved it. I think they’re great human beings, but amazing athletes, and inspirational. What a great show!”

Decider asked Heughan if he had any words of advice for the kids of Navarro College Cheer, and he said, “I mean I think you get to see how amazing that show is and the sort of bond they have with each other and how hard they work together. They’re going to miss it. And that’s why we want Lexi to get back in there! She’s got a talent!”

“And Gabi [Butler], you know, Gabi’s going to be a superstar, and I think she understands. But I think her parents don’t quite…well, they’re pushing her. She’s clever. She knows that it’s not going to last forever.”

Heughan went on to say he couldn’t watch drama shows anymore and so he was mostly watching docuseries. Cheer hit all of his sweet spots. “They’re such athletes, these kids, and they push themselves so hard and it’s amazing.”

Outlander Season 5 premieres on Starz on February 16, 2020.
