Sandi Toksvig Makes Shock Exit from ‘The Great British Baking Show’

The Great British Baking Show is about to lose its sweetest ingredient. Overnight, Deadline reported that host Sandi Toksvig is leaving the show. The Danish comedian offered a kind, steadying hand for the show as it transitioned from the BBC to Channel 4. Toksvig and co-host Noel Fielding replaced the beloved duo (and real life best friends) Sue Perkins and Mel Giedroyc. However, Toksvig has just quit after three seasons on the show in order to spend time on her other projects.

“When stepping down from a job it is quite common for people to say they are doing so in order to spend more time with their family. Unusually I am departing from The Great British [Baking Show] so I can spend more time with my other work,” Toksvig said in a statement.

She added: “As my waistline will testify, [The Great British Baking Show] is an all-consuming show. Spending time with Prue [Leith], Paul [Hollywood] and Noel has been one of the great pleasures of my life. These are friendships which I know will continue beyond the confines of television. [The Great British Baking Show] is a wonderful program which has already proved it can happily withstand a change of hosting personnel. The reason for that, of course, is that the true stars of the show are the bakers themselves. I wish everyone well.”

Toksvig’s departure coincides with a rough patch for the series. Although The Great British Baking Show is as popular as ever, the most recent season left a sour taste in a lot of viewers’ mouths. Toksvig was one of the few bright spots in the series and it’s unknown who will replace her. Whoever it is, they better be able to keep Noel Fielding on his toes and to put judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith in their place.

Channel 4 and Love Productions are currently looking for a host to replace Toksvig.
