I regret to inform you that the new Dr. Dolittle movie comes out this weekend. This film, simply titled Dolittle, stars Robert Downey Jr. as a character who’s been played by several actors, but perhaps most famously by Eddie Murphy in the 1998 comedy, Dr. Dolittle.
Why did RDJ choose this as his first big role after retiring from Tony Stark and the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Reader, that question will haunt me to the end of my days. Maybe he’s trying to help out Eddie Murphy’s Oscar campaign. But whatever his reasons, he did that, the movie exists, and now we all have to deal with it.
Dolittle opens in theaters this Friday, which means, whether or not you plan to see it, now would be a great time to rewatch the film that has a soft spot in the hearts of so many millennials. But how? Is Dr. Dolittle on Netflix? Is Dr. Dolittle on Disney Plus? Read on to find out.
IS DR. DOLITTLE ON NETFLIX?
Sadly, no. There is however another Eddie Murphy children’s comedy on Netflix: 2009’s Imagine That, starring Murphy as an alcoholic father who finds the secret to his recovery in his daughter’s (Black-ish‘s Yara Shahidi), imaginary world.
IS DR. DOLITTLE ON DISNEY PLUS?
Also no. This one hurts, because Dr. Dolittle was streaming on Disney+ when the streaming service first launched. (It’s a 20th Century Fox film, whose library Disney acquired when it bought out Fox last year.) However, it was taken off, along with several other films that quietly disappeared from Disney+ at the beginning of the year. Disney+, if you can’t give me unlimited access to Eddie Murphy and his canine best friend, Norm MacDonald, what even is the point of you?!
IS DR. DOLITTLE ON HULU?
Nope! However, you can watch the ’60’s Doctor Dolittle if you have the STARZ add-on.
IS DR. DOLITTLE ON AMAZON PRIME?
Yes, thankfully. But you will have to pay for it. Dr. Dolittle is $3.99 to rent or $14.99 to buy on Amazon Prime. I realize the internet has made many of us feel entitled to free content in the blink of an eye, but I think four bucks is a fair price for a classic.
