Karlie Kloss Defends Husband Joshua Kushner After Shocking ‘Project Runway’ Slam: “The Real Tragedy” Was That Ugly Dress

If you come for the queen, you best not miss. On Thursday night, Karlie Kloss stopped by Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, where she addressed the viral “Kushners” moment from this season of Project Runway. The host explained that contestant Tyler Neasloney didn’t go home because he threw shade at her husband, Joshua Kushner (the brother Jared Kushner); he was eliminated because the dress he designed was “terrible.” Added Kloss, “I would not wear that dress to any dinner.”

On the January 2 episode of Project Runway, contestants were asked to use upcycled garments from Goodwill to design a dress for Kloss to wear to a CFDA event in Paris. When it came time for Neasloney, a 29-year-old contestant from New Jersey, to present his look, the judges weren’t impressed. “I cannot see Karlie wearing it anywhere, honestly,” said judge Brandon Maxwell. “Not even to dinner with the Kushners?” replied Neasloney.

Between the bad dress and the shocking Kushners dig — Kloss is married to Joshua Kushner, the brother of Jared Kushner, who is married to Ivanka Trump — it was no surprise when Neasloney went home at the end of the episode. “I’m not a jerk. I’m professional. What I said earlier had no hidden agenda, no meaning, no nothing,” he said before leaving Project Runway.

Kloss seemed to accept his apology, but that didn’t stop her from spilling the tea on Thursday night. When Andy Cohen asked about the viral moment, the model dove right in, joking that she “was honored to be one of the first memes of the decade.” Continued Kloss, “But honestly, the real tragedy of this whole thing is that no one is talking about how terrible that dress was. That’s why he went home! And no, I would not wear that dress to any dinner, any kind of dinner.”

“There is so much speculation about your home life and your family,” said Cohen, before asking if the topic was fair game. Kloss gave him permission, saying that she’s “an open book,” and he didn’t hesitate to take advantage of the opportunity. “Are you on the same page politically with the family?” asked the WWHL host.

“Andy. I’m sure I’m not the only person in this country who does not necessarily agree with their family on politics,” she replied. “I voted as a Democrat in 2016, and I plan to do the same in 2020.”

Kloss added that she’s “very passionate about different issues,” including women’s reproductive health. “I’m very involved with Planned Parenthood,” she told Cohen, her fellow St. Louis, Missouri native. “Next time we’re both home in St. Louis you should come volunteer with me.”
