Donald Trump Tweets His ‘Space Force’ Logo And George Takei, Others Compare To ‘Star Trek’ Logo

This week, Donald Trump tweeted an image of his new “Space Force” logo, which Twitter users quickly picked up on the fact that it bears a striking resemblance to the Star Trek logo. George Takei, who appeared in the original series, took the opportunity to speak out against the current White House occupant and his values.

You can check out Trump’s tweet as well as a user’s tweet comparing the two logos below. The resemblance is uncanny.

Takei penned an article for The Washington Post where he spoke of an episode of Star Trek: The Original Series called “Mirror, Mirror,” in which some of the crew have a vision that the once peaceful United Federation of Planets is now an “Empire” in some sort of parallel universe.

“In this terrifying version of reality, violence and cruelty have displaced peace and diplomacy as the hallmarks of governance,” says Takei in the article.

“The “evil” version of my own character, Sulu,” continues Takei. “plots to kill both Capt. Kirk and Mr. Spock so that he can take command of the ship.” The actor and activist stated that the writers were trying to send a subliminal message.

“A free and democratic society can flip in the blink of an ion storm, and all that we take for granted about the rule of law, the chain of command and the civilized functions of government can be gone in an instant.”

This is the episode that Takei recalled when Trump shared the image on Friday, dedicating it to our “Great Military Leaders” of the “Sixth Branch of our Magnificent Military!” Takei then goes on to slight the intelligence of the first lady, stating “I had to wonder whether Melania Trump was part of the design committee.”

The new logo is apparently just another version of the former Air Force Space Command logo – both of which feature an upward pointing delta – which is not surprising since the “Space Force” is just a rebrand of an already existing branch within the Air Force.

If you recall, one of Trump’s first initiatives while in office was to pull the U.S. out of the Paris Agreement partly due to his lack of belief in climate change. The fact that Trump is so focused on a “Space Force” seemed to bewilder Takei, who stated that “even the notion of a “Space Force” seems patently absurd coming from an administration where science is mocked and disregarded.”

Takei concluded his article by calling Trump a “mendacious thug” who has made us question whether the U.S. Senate is a “deliberate, serious body that serves as a vital check on presidential power.” He also suggested that Trump create a more respectable logo that is less similar to space fiction titles.
