‘Next in Fashion’ on Netflix: Meet Alexa Chung, Tan France’s Fierce Co-Host

Netflix continues their rapid expansion into all areas of reality TV with the launch of Next in Fashion, the first major player in the fashion competition sub-genre to debut in a very long time. At the helm of the fashionable foray are style icons Tan France and Alexa Chung.

But while both hosts call the UK home, France quickly became a major name in America thanks to his role on the Emmy-winning breakout hit Queer Eye. The makeover show put Netflix’s reality content on the map, and now France is pulling double duty as both 1/5 of the Fab Five and 1/2 of Next in Fashion’s hosting team. His co-host, Alexa Chung, has been an even bigger deal for an even longer period of time in the UK, but she’s yet to have a major breakout moment in the States (at least not in the past decade). Next in Fashion changes that, and now a whole new generation will get to see what Chung is all about. Curious to learn more about her? We’ve got the details you’re looking for.

Who is Alexa Chung?

Alexa Chung is a big deal, if you couldn’t tell from her 3.6 million followers on Instagram. Truly, the question “Who is Alexa Chung?” is a hilarious one if you live in the UK. Chung kicked off a modeling career at the age of 16 and switched to fashion journalism in her early 20s. She then became a pop culture fixture in the UK, becoming one of the hardest-working TV panelists and presenters around and appearing on Popworld, 8 Out of 10 Cats, Vanity Lair, Get a Grip, The Wall, Frock Me, and a whole lot of fashion-related TV specials.

But to American audiences, Alexa Chung’s big moment came in 2009 when she hosted her own MTV talk show It’s On with Alexa Chung, a groundbreaking live show that incorporated input then-new social media sites Twitter and Facebook. The show was short-lived, but it was clearly ahead of the curve when it came to interactive talk shows.

Chung’s ventured into design work in recent years and launched her own fashion brand, ALEXACHUNG. She also diversifies her resume with the occasional acting gig, most recently providing the voice for Cathy on Neo Yokio on Netflix. Now her partnership with Netflix grows to include co-hosting Next in Fashion with Tan France, and American audiences can finally get hip to this charismatic personality, one that the UK has known for a while.
