Billie Eilish Side-Eyed Kristen Wiig and Maya Rudolph at the Oscars and Twitter is Mad

Kristen Wiig and Maya Rudolph killed at the 2020 Oscars on Sunday night, as usual, but 18-year-old singer Billie Eilish wasn’t amused.

Wiig and Rudolph, who were presenting the award for Best Costume Design (to Little Women), launched into a medley of songs to demonstrate to the directors present that they have the range, and they can sing, thanks. It started with “These Boots Are Made For Walkin’,” before going into “Lady in Red.”

As Rudolph and Wiig were really getting into their groove, hitting the harmonies on Chris de Burgh’s “Lady in Red,” the camera cut to Billie Eilish. Instead of laughing at her comedy queens like the rest of us, Eilish was making a face. A face that suggested she was not enjoying the comedy. A side-eye, if you will.

It’s also possible, as others pointed out on Twitter, that Eilish was merely reacting to seeing her face on the big screen. If that’s the case, I get it! I hate looking at myself too.

But of course, that’s not the way Twitter sees things.

Wiig and Rudolph were up there delivering Oscar comedy perfection. They were in sync. They were hilarious. They were proving, yet again, that they are and have been the perfect Oscar hosts for the past decade, a fact the Academy has yet to recognize. So it’s natural for people to be a tad defensive of them.

On the plus side, the “Bad Guy” singer possibly disrespecting her elders gave us the first truly meme-worthy moment of the 2020 Oscars, which we all desperately need if we want to get through three hours of this. I thank Billie Eilish for that.

And to be fair, Willem Dafoe also looked a tad concerned, in his unhinged Willem Dafoe way.

C’mon, Dafoe. It’s Maya Rudolph and Kristen Wiig! They deserve respect.
