Brad Pitt’s Voice Cracks During Emotional Supporting Oscar Acceptance Speech

It’s been a long time coming, but Brad Pitt finally won an acting Oscar. The movie icon won the Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his role in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. This was his fourth acting nomination, his first being way back in 1996 for Twelve Monkeys. This statue joins his other Oscar, which he won in 2014 as a producer on the Best Picture-winning 12 Years a Slave.

Regina King presented Pitt with the award, with the winner remarking that he has 45 seconds to make a speech. But, as he said, that 45 seconds is “more than John Bolton” got. Pitt joked that he hopes Tarantino gets to make a movie about the impeachment trial and that in the end, “the adults do the right thing.”

Pitt, starting to get emotional over his long-awaited acting win, thanked his co-star Leonardo DiCaprio, also nominated tonight, saying, “Leo, I’ll ride on your coattails any day, man. The view is fantastic.” He closed out his speech by dedicating the win to his children: “This is for my kids, who color everything I do. I adore you.”

Pitt beat out an absolutely stacked roster of actors in the category, including Tom Hanks (A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood), Anthony Hopkins (The Two Popes), Al Pacino (The Irishman), and Joe Pesci (The Irishman).

Pitt’s shelf is now quite crowded after this awards season. He also won the Golden Globe and BAFTA for his performance in Once Upon a Time…, which made him the frontrunner going into tonight’s awards.

The Quentin Tarantino film earned 10 nominations at this year’s ceremony, including Best Picture. Also nominated for the film are Tarantino for writing and directing the film, as well as Leonardo DiCaprio in the Best Actor category.

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is currently available on VOD and Blu-ray.
