New Movies on Demand: ‘Frozen II,’ ‘Mickey and the Bear,’ ‘Parasite,’ and More

Happy Valentine’s Day, you hopeless romantics! This weekend we have not one, but two holidays to celebrate: this day dedicated to love as well as President’s Day. And we all know what that means, this weekend is a long weekend! So how are you going to spend that extra 24 hours of workless bliss? Well, I don’t know about you, but I plan to stay in with friends and binge-watch a bunch of movies while we eat fistfuls of now-discounted chocolate. And whether you use Amazon Video, iTunes, Vudu or your cable’s on demand service, there are a ton of new titles out now to fill your weekend with much-needed TLC.

This weekend is all about self-love, and the movies we’ve got lined up will definitely meet your heart’s desire. After the megahit film Frozen came out to fanfare in 2013, we refused to “let it go” and belted out the catchy tunes uninhibited in our homes. So, it is just our luck that Frozen II is now available for purchase on VOD! In Frozen, Elsa feared that her powers were too much for the world; but in Frozen II she must pray that they are enough to save her kingdom from the elemental creatures that plagued the past, and the present. If you are looking for more of a sleeper hit, then be sure to check out Mickey and the Bear, a coming-of-age drama from Annabelle Attanasio (Bull). It centers on Mickey: a strong-willed teenage girl living in Montana struggling to navigate a loving yet volatile relationship with her veteran father, for whom she takes responsibility. Desperate to emancipate herself from this imposed identity, Mickey risks family, heartbreak and stability in order to find her own place in the world. Mickey and the Bear may not have made huge noise after its debut, but this highly-acclaimed film deserves your rapt attention. And, after its incredible night at the Academy Awards, “Best Picture” winner Parasite is now available to rent. So, if you hadn’t seen Bong Joon-ho’s masterpiece before the Oscars, you better jump on the chance now!

Curious about what else is out there? Check out what other dramas, comedies and romance films you can buy or rent this week.

Frozen II

We “let it go” in Frozen but now it is time to go “into the unknown” in Frozen II. The sequel to the hit Disney film picks up with our two favorite leading ladies, Anna and Elsa, living out their happily-ever-afters in Arendelle…or so they think. When a mysterious voice begins calling out to Elsa, she follows it and unintentionally awakens the spirits of the four elements, which wreak havoc on her kingdom. Desperate to save her people, Elsa — along with Anna, Kristoff, Olaf and Sven — embark on a journey into the enchanted forest to discover the truth about the kingdom’s past to save its future. A film about self-discovery, love and forgiveness, Frozen II is now available for purchase on VOD.

Parasite

After a stellar night at the Oscars, this Award-winning film is now available to rent on demand! For those still in the dark, Parasite is the South Korean dark dramedy film about class differences and the thing we will do to maintain the status quo. It follows two families: the Park Family, which is the quintessential picture of success and wealth in modern Korea, and the Kim Family, a family flush with street smarts but not much else. By a stroke of luck, the Kims end up working for the Parks and seamlessly fold themselves into their luxe lives. But when an interloper threatens to break the symbiotic relationship these families have created —not to mention the Kims’ newfound comfort— a sly battle for dominance breaks out. Trust us, although this is a foreign-language film, it is far from ostracizing thanks to its universal themes and captivating storyline.
