‘Stranger Things’: Hopper Is Officially Back In Season 4 Teaser

Netflix just gave every Stranger Things fan the perfect valentine: our first glimpse at a trailer/teaser/first look/production announcement for Season 4! It’s been seven months since we last saw our favorite monster-fighting teens and the messy (but scrappy!) adults in their lives. As we left them in the Stranger Things 3 finale, things were looking quiet in Hawkins; the Mind Flayer was defeated, as were the Russian insurgents trying to harness the power of the Upside Down. Of course, victory came at great cost: the life of Jim Hopper (David Harbour).

Or did it?

This first look at Stranger Things 4 confirms what the Season 3 post-credits scene teased: Hopper is back. The tease is set in the snowy wilderness of Russia, as a haggard group of laborers toil away on a mysterious project while kept in check by armed guards. The camera pauses on one of those prisoners and pans up, confirming that the “American” we heard talk of in that post-credits scene was, in fact, Hopper. Our fave police chief is far away from home.

Stranger Things creators Matt and Ross Duffer included a note to fans along with the video tease, which sets up the horrors that await us in Season 4.

“We’re excited to officially confirm that production on Stranger Things 4 is now underway — and even more excited to announce the return of Hopper! Although it’s not all good news for our “American”; he is imprisoned far from home in the snowy wasteland of Kamchatka, where he will face dangers both human…and other. Meanwhile, back in the states, a new horror is beginning to surface, something long buried, something that connects everything….

Season 4 is shaping up to be the biggest and most frightening season yet, and we cannot wait for everyone to see more. In the meantime — pray for the American.”

From Russia with love,
The Duffer Brothers

While a release date has yet to be announced, we know from the Season 3 production schedule that it takes a while to knock out a season of the show. Knowing that, it’s possible that we won’t see Stranger Things 4 until Spring 2021, maybe late late late 2020 at the earliest? Hey, at least that gives you plenty of time to rewatch the entire series again… and again!
