Who Narrates ‘Narcos: Mexico’ Season 2?

Through its telling of the fall of Miguel Ángel Félix Gallardo, Narcos: Mexico has emerged as one of the most thrilling new seasons of TV of 2020. But there’s one question that may be bugging viewers. Who narrates Narcos: Mexico Season 2?

Each season of Narcos and Narcos: Mexico has followed the same format. Half of each season follows whatever drug lord the series is currently highlighting while the other half revolves around a group of DEA agents trying to stop these criminal masterminds. These dives into the DEA are often accompanied by a voiceover explaining the finer points of the drug trade and its effects on government and politics during this time.

Narcos‘ first two seasons shared the same narrator, Boyd Holbrook, who played DEA Agent Steve Murphy. Season 3 changed narrators to Pedro Pascal’s DEA Agent Javier Peña, indicating Peña’s changing role from secondary character to leading man. And the narrator in Narcos: Mexico reflects a similarly important shift.

Scoot McNairy’s DEA Agent Walt Breslin narrates both Seasons 1 and 2 of Narcos: Mexico.

The first time Walt was introduced to this world of cocaine and blood it was through his narration. Though he told the story of Enrique “Kiki” Camarena’s (Michael Peña) kidnapping, torture, and eventual murder at the hands of Félix Gallardo (Diego Luna), McNairy’s Walt didn’t appear until the final episode of Narcos: Mexico’s first season. And this season we finally learned why his voice was leading the charge. In this show Agent Walt Breslin is the head of Operation Leyenda, the largest homicide investigation the DEA ever undertook. That’s why Walt’s voice is at the center of Narcos: Mexico well before he’s ever introduced; understanding what happened to Camarena and arresting the men responsible for his murder is his job and passion.

Ultimately, Walt Breslin wasn’t a real DEA agent. His character is a combination of all the agents who worked to avenge Camarena’s death. But the work this team did arresting Ernesto Fonseca Carrillo, Rafael Caro Quintero, and Miguel Ángel Félix Gallardo is all very true. At the moment it’s unknown if Walt Breslin will return to Narcos: Mexico if there is a Season 3. But we do know that McNairy is open to it.
