Executive produced by Murphy, Ian Brennan, Alexis Martin Woodall, and Janet Mock and written by Murphy, Brennan, and Mock, Hollywood puts a glamorous shine on a tale as old as time The limited series follows a group of aspiring actors in post-World War II LA who are dedicated to making it in Hollywood’s Golden Age, no matter the cost. As it chronicles their struggles to achieving fame the series will highlight the racial, gender, and sexual discrimination that made such a glamorous industry so toxic.

A limited series, Hollywood will be composed of seven episodes. David Corenswet, Darren Criss, Jeremy Pope, Samara Weaving, Laura Harrier, Jim Parsons, Dylan McDermott, Holland Taylor, Patti LuPone, Jake Picking, and Joe Mantello are all slated to star in this series. Also Maude Apatow, Mira Sorvino, and Rob Reiner will be making guest appearances. Hollywood is set to premiere on Netflix May 1.

From Rachel Barry to Gianni Versace, the super producer has always had a soft spot for over-the-top characters. But it seems that Hollywood has one clear Ryan Murphy sibling: FEUD: Bette and Joan. The FX miniseries only aired one season, chronicling the acting rivalry between movie icons Bette Davis and Joan Crawford. In between their bickering and petty manipulations, FEUD morphed into a somber reflection about the sexism and ageism that ran rampant in Hollywood while also highlighting that the prejudice in Tinseltown hasn’t changed too much since the ’60s. Based on this initial description, it seems as if Hollywood is taking some of its cues from this underrated gem.

Though Hollywood will be Murphy’s second Netflix original after The Politician, it’s his first to premiere under his much-discussed exclusivity deal with the streaming giant. In addition to Hollywood, Murphy will be creating a miniseries about Halston, adaptations of The Boys in the Band and The Chorus Line, the One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest’s continuation Ratched, an Andy Warhol docuseries, and several more shows and movies for Netflix. That’s not even including The Politician‘s second season. Look out, Netflix is about to become Murphy-flix.
