Less than 24 hours after Parasite took home the Academy Award for Best Picture at the 2020 Oscars—becoming the first non-English language film to ever win the award—Bong Joon Ho’s movie skyrocketed to the top of the Amazon and Apple sales charts. We certainly don’t want to discourage anyone from purchasing this truly incredible film as soon as possible, but Decider can exclusively reveal that Hulu subscribers will be able to stream Parasite for free in less than two months… On April 8.

You heard correctly: Parasite will begin streaming exclusively on Hulu on April 8 as part of the streaming service’s overall deal with the independent film production company NEON. Since the deal was signed in 2017, Hulu has had the exclusive streaming rights to critically acclaimed films like I, Tonya, Three Identical Strangers, The Beach Bum, and Honeyland, following those films’ theatrical releases. Most of the above films hit Hulu about six months after their theatrical runs, as is the case with Parasite, which opened in the United States in October 2019.

Hulu’s deal with Neon will continue to pay off handsomely this year. In addition to Parasite, the production company also released Portrait of a Lady on Fire, Céline Sciamma’s critically-acclaimed French period romance that has been steadily gaining a devoted following on social media. Portrait of a Lady on Fire was released in France in September 2019, but only opened wide in the United States this February, so you might expect to see that film on Hulu around November 2020. It’s a great time to be a film lover with a Hulu account!

Parasite, meanwhile, all but swept the Oscars in a surprise win, beating out Sam Mendes’s war film 1917,which many experts had as the frontrunner. In addition to Best Picture, the South Korean thriller took home the Oscars for Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, and Best International Feature Film. (See the complete list of 2020 Oscar winners here.) Following that historic win, Neon doubled Parasite‘s theatrical run in the U.S., giving it a wide release into 2,000 theaters, despite the fact that the film was already out on DVD and digital. This week, for one week only, the film is also playing in select IMAX theaters.

The film stars Song Kang-ho, Lee Sun-kyun, Cho Yeo-jeong, Choi Woo-shik, and Park So-dam, and follows a poor South Korean family who scams their way into the lives of a much richer family—until it all comes crashing down.

If you can’t wait until April 8 to watch Parasite on Hulu—and you really should see it as soon as you possibly can—you can catch a screening at your local theater, or buy or rent the film on Amazon PrimeiTunesVuduYouTubeGoogle Play, or where ever you purchase digital content.
