Sanditon just ended its run on Masterpiece on PBS which means we already want more Sanditon.

It’s not just that the series brought one of Jane Austen’s unfinished works to glittering life, but we refuse to accept that devastating ending. (Sanditon star Rose Williams might like it, but she doesn’t speak for everyone.) The fact that Sanditon‘s writer and creator Andrew Davies has admitted from the beginning that he wants the story of Sanditon to continue on past Charlotte Heywood (Rose Williams) and Sidney Parker’s (Theo James) last meeting only makes us want Sanditon Season 2 all the more. As Davies himself told Decider, “We’d love to carry on with a second series and even more if there was an appetite for it. Because certainly the people in the UK who saw it, absolutely loved it.”

However, Sanditon might indeed be done for good. That’s because Sanditon‘s British broadcaster, ITV, has already cancelled the show after airing it for one season. “It had some very passionate fans, but for ITV, we didn’t quite get enough numbers,” Davies said.

Davies has teased that if the show was a big hit stateside on PBS, ITV might reconsider. Moreover, there’s even a possibility that Sanditon‘s American network PBS or another streaming service could pick it up independently. Decider has reached out to PBS about this, but it looks too early to say.

So Sanditon‘s writer is totally on board to continue the story of Charlotte Heywood, Sidney Parker, Georgiana Lambe, and the rest of Sanditon‘s colorful personalities. However, would the original cast want to continue with the series? Decider at least knows two stars who are game to return to Sanditon Season 2. Decider spoke to Sanditon star Rose Williams a few weeks back, and Leo Suter — the actor who plays one of Charlotte Heywood’s two dashing suitors, Young Stringer — happened to be briefly on the call.

“I love my time on this show. I absolutely had the most brilliant time with everybody. it was such a great group of actors and the most wonderful crew,” Rose Williams said. “I’d really like to come back to do it. I suppose it’s just up in the air, and we’ll have to see what happens.”

“It’s out of our hands. We’ll see what the gods have in store,” Suter said.

So offer up your prayers to the gods of Regency drama if you want to see the Charlotte/Sidney/Stringer love triangle continue in a potential Sanditon Season 2.
