It just wouldn’t be a classic episode of This Is Us without a little bit of mystery.
For most of Tuesday night’s all-new episode (“Clouds”), the identity of Randall’s therapist remained a mystery. But at the end of the hour, as “Our House” played, it was revealed that Randall’s therapist on This is Us is played by renowned actress Pamela Adlon.
This is a classic case of the rich getting richer.
If you’re a fan of comedy, you’re undoubtedly familiar with Adlon’s work. The actress has voiced an iconic animated character, created her own critically-acclaimed comedy, and is an Emmy Award-winner. Here’s a brief history of This Is Us’ newest scene-stealer Pamela Adlon.
WHO IS THE THERAPIST ON THIS IS US?
One more time for the students in the back: Randall’s therapist is portrayed by Pamela Adlon.

Oh we’re sure, but there was definitely a bit of confusion. A quick search of Google Trends reveals that people mistook Adlon for both Janeane Garofalo and Leah Remini.
WHERE HAVE I SEEN PAMELA ADLON BEFORE?
So many places! A prolific actress, writer, and voiceover star, Adlon is best known for creating and starring in the critically-acclaimed FX series Better Things. Adlon also wrote and appeared on the FX comedy Louie, played Sally in the 2018 film Bumblebee, portrayed Marcy on the popular Showtime dramedy Californication, and voiced the character of Bobby Hill on Mike Judge’s long-running animated classic King of the Hill.
Adlon was nominated for an Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series in both 2017 and 2018 and captured an Emmy for Outstanding Voice-Over Performance for her work on King of the Hill.
HOW LONG WILL PAMELA ADLON BE ON THIS IS US?
Back in January, Deadline announced that both Sophia Bush and Pamela Adlon would be guest starring on the popular NBC series for the remainder of Season 4.
“We have a cool guest star coming, Pamela Adlon, who will be involved in Randall’s very intense storyline,” This Is Us creator Dan Fogelman said during TCA. “She has an unbelievable arc in the back of the season, she plays a limited but very important part of that story.”
This Is Us airs Tuesday nights at 9:00 p.m. ET on NBC.
