New Movies on Demand: ‘Uncut Gems,’ ‘Bombshell,’ ‘Knives Out,’ and More

We love a good Friday feeling and right now, the feeling is high! But not only is it the end of the week, but this weekend also marks the end of the month. Soon the weather will start to warm, the ground will thaw and you will run out of strong reasons to stay indoors! It would be smart of you to take advantage of the cold days we have left by snuggling up under a good blanket and popping some movies onto your home screens. And thanks to the fantastic list of highly-acclaimed movies now out on Amazon Video, iTunes, Vudu and your cable’s on demand service, you should feel no guilt if you never step outdoors all weekend.

Hold on to your remotes, people, because two major films of 2019 are now available to purchase on demand! First, for those Adam Sandler fans — or fans of any crime thriller film, really — we have Uncut Gems. It tells the story of a New York City jeweler with a huge gambling addiction who stumbles across an opportunity to make major money from an uncut gem (and now the title makes sense!). After watching Adam Sandler really work his serious acting skills, mosey your way on over to another big-ticket item: Bombshell. Starring Nicole Kidman, Charlize Theron and Margot Robbie, this headline-making biographical film recounts the takedown of former Fox News executive, Roger Ailes. Kidman, Theron and Robbie are perfectly cast in their roles as the key women in this story and will leave you researching all the details of what really happened — because this story is too crazy to be true, right? And finally, if you haven’t had your fill of good cinema, Knives Out is now available for rent! You can finally drool at Chris Evans’s cable-knit sweater without pressure to purchase it…the movie, we mean.

Curious about what else is out there? Check out what other dramas, comedies and horror films you can buy or rent this week.

Uncut Gems

We have seen Adam Sandler as the goofy dad in Grown-Ups, the bumbling man-child in Happy Gilmore and as a scrappy golfer in Billy Madison, but this funny man gets to finally flex his acting chops in Uncut Gems. From acclaimed filmmakers Josh and Benny Safdie, this crime thriller centers on Howard Ratner (Sandler): a charismatic jeweler in New York City’s Diamond District who has a major gambling addiction. So when he gets his hands on a very rare and valuable stone, Ratner tries to weave a web of complicated deals and bargains with the goal of maximizing his profit — instead of paying off the debts he owes. If Sandler’s swindling character is addicted to the rush of a win, you too will soon find yourselves addicted to the rush of the electrifying movie that is Uncut Gems.

Crawl

Forget sharks, after watching the horror film Crawl, alligators will be your new animal to fear. Crawl is the skin-chilling brainchild of producer Sam Raimi (Evil Dead, Spider-Man) and director Alexandre Aja (The Hills Have Eyes). Set in Florida during a category-5 hurricane, the disaster survival film follows a father and daughter (and their dog) who get trapped in the basement of their flooding house. But, just their luck, they are not alone: a couple of alligators on the hunt have decided to join them. With time running out, Kaya Scodelario and Barry Pepper’s characters must try to free themselves from impending death by the alligator, drowning, or both.
