‘Black Panther’ Leaves Netflix Tomorrow, So Make Tonight a Wakanda Night

Bad news, Wakandans: Black Panther is about to be taken off Netflix tomorrow, aka Tuesday, March 3. That means you only have one day to watch Black Panther on Netflix before it’s gone. And no, Black Panther will not be coming back to Netflix, ever.  Sorry. So much for Wakanda forever.

The reason Black Panther is leaving Netflix and never, ever coming back is very simple: Disney+. Black Panther is a Marvel movie, and Marvel is a Disney company. Why would Disney continue to host one of the studio’s most popular movies on Netflix when it could host Black Panther on its very own streaming service Disney+?

The good news for Disney+ subscribers is that there will be only a one-day wait time between Black Panther leaving Netflix and Black Panther arriving on Disney+. Black Panther will be available to stream for free right away on Disney+, on March 4. Now the only Disney MCU movies on Netflix instead of Disney+ will be Avengers: Infinity War and Ant-Man and the Wasp, which are leaving Netflix and headed to Disney+ on June 25 and July 29 respectively. (You can also watch the Marvel TV shows and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse on Netflix, the latter of which is a Sony movie, not a Disney movie.)

In the meantime, if you don’t have Disney+, at least you still have one more day to catch this superhero film starring Chadwick Boseman and Michael B. Jordan on Netflix. It’s never a bad time to watch the first Marvel film to win an Academy Award (for Best Costume Design, Best Original Score, and Best Production Design).

Plus, though the Black Panther sequel won’t be coming until 2022, there is a sequel coming. In an interview with Decider, Winston Duke—who plays the fearsome warrior M’Baku who challenges T’Challa for the kingdom of Wakanda—said he hasn’t even seen a script yet, so it sounds like writer/director Ryan Coogler is taking things slow. Still, it couldn’t hurt brush up on your Wakanda history right now, and if you want to do so with your Netflix account, you have to do it tonight. Call up your friends and make a night of it! T’challa is waiting.
