‘The Circle’ Is Back on Netflix Just in Time to Make You Feel Okay About Social Distancing

Remember way back in January, when everyone was obsessed with The Circle? It feels like a lifetime ago, if only because Love is Blind happened in February and completely dominated all of our conversations. But, as is the way with Netflix reality shows, another month means another new reality show to binge—and this time, it’s The Circle again! Such is the circle of life!

Except this time around, it’s The Circle: Brazil, the latest international spinoff of the UK reality show. If you thought hanging out alone in an apartment and getting lost in social media was an American thing, think again (and also, remember that the Brits did this whole experiment first). The first four episodes of The Circle: Brazil are available to binge right now, and you’ll most likely find them every bit as addictive as the US version. It turns out that catfishing is the true universal language!

Seriously. The Circle: Brazil is all about catfishing, both subtle and extreme. There are players pretending to be older than they really are, younger than they really are, feistier than they really are, and some even have wildly different professions (watch the first 5 minutes and then can we talk about Akel? Good god.) And of course there are the typical catfish types, people pretending to be completely different people! Is anyone just playing as themselves?!

The contestants are playing the exact same game you recognize from previous Circles, and they’re trying to win a big cash prize of $300,000 Brazilian reais (roughly $64,256 USD). The season will also look familiar because it was filmed in the same place as The Circle UK and The Circle US. The new show also comes with a new host in Giovanna Ewbank, a Brazilian actress, model, and TV personality most known for hosting the long-running Video Show.

Considering that practically all of America (and large chunks of the world) are practicing the art of social distancing due to coronavirus, now really is the perfect time to watch a new season of The Circle. Nothing is going to make you feel better about being holed up in your home, only interacting with others via text than a reality show wherein people are handsomely rewarded for doing just that. I mean, if there’s one reality show that’s going to thrive during this time of quarantine, it’s the Circle franchise. So bring on The Circle: Brazil!

And just a thought you can have for free, Netflix: now might be a great time to figure out a way for all of us to play a home edition of The Circle. We need something to do!
