Here’s Why ‘The Circle: Brazil’ Apartments Look so Familiar

Y’all, The Circle is back on Netflix—and just in time for your self-imposed quarantine! Nothing makes you feel better about being a shut-in than watching other people in seclusion. For that, we salute The Circle franchise, the reality TV series that we need right now. But this time around, The Circle is in a totally different language. First there was the UK edition, then the breakout hit US adaptation that dropped on Netflix in January, and now we have The Circle: Brazil. It’s the same competition show you eagerly binged back in January, with just one major difference: everybody’s speaking Portuguese.

And seriously, that is the only major difference. “But,” you ask, “isn’t the setting a major difference? Isn’t the show in a whole new country?!” Surprise: it is not! Confused? Keep reading!

Where is The Circle: Brazil filmed?

Not in Brazil! Despite using South American establishing shots, the contestants are actually living in the same apartment building that was used in The Circle US. And to go a step further, that building isn’t even in the United States. It’s in the UK!

That’s because the building was first used in The Circle UK Season 2, and all of the apartments were outfitted with dozens of cameras because the production company intended on filming all of the international versions in the same building. That building is located in Salford, a district in England within Manchester. The building is known as the Adelphi Wharf 1 (here it is in Google Maps). The building is a real apartment building, meaning you can actually rent a flat just a few floors above or below where The Circle is taped.

Are the US apartments used in The Circle: Brazil?

They are! As we found out from the Circle EP, there are 10 apartments set aside for Circle contestants in the building. You see 9 of them in the first episode of The Circle: Brazil (the Alex/Adam apartment from the US version isn’t used in the first episode of Brazil). Here’s what all of the US apartments look like on The Circle: Brazil. You’ll see that while most of them are recognizable, a few have undergone a makeover.

Akel moved into Karyn’s apartment. It has a new rug and pillows.

Dumaresq is in Shubham’s apartment. It has a flashy new couch (that will be familiar to viewers of the UK Circle).

Marina is in Sammie’s apartment, which has a new couch and lost that iconic white wall feature.

Lorayne is in Seaburn’s old space, which has had a slight paint job.

Gaybol is living in Chris’ apartment, which has undergone a massive transformation (I dunno if I’d call it a glow up, necessarily).

Alanna’s apartment has been restyled for Ana Carla.

Joey’s pad is now rented out to Paloma, and it has a dope new paint job.

And Miranda’s apartment is now inhabited by JP.

If you pay close attention to all iterations of The Circle, you’ll even notice that certain pieces of art and furniture have been moved from one apartment to another. For example, that big piece of wall art prominently featured in Miranda’s apartment (now inhabited by JP) has been moved to Ana Carla’s apartment (a.k.a. Alanna’s).

There are definitely more interior design Easter eggs to be found throughout The Circle: Brazil, so keep your eyes peeled. This just adds to the fun, if you’re as weirdly detail-minded as I am!

The first four episodes of The Circle: Brazil are on Netflix right now.
