‘Dave’ Already Aired One of the Most Graphic Sex Scenes of the Year

We’re barely three months into 2020 and already FXX’s Dave has premiered what will likely be one of the most shocking sex scenes of the year. Episode 3 “Hypospadias” confronts the comedy rapper’s bedroom hangups head on. And somehow that frankness involves Dave going to town on a sex doll lovingly named the Fuck Me Silly.

Despite trying to make a career rapping about his dick, Dave (Dave Burd) has always made it clear that he’s not comfortable with sex. The series’ first episode opened with our hero anxiously rambling to his doctor about the various surgeries he believes turned his dick into balls. He’s so insecure about his body not even his girlfriend has seen him completely naked. So when Ally (Taylor Misiak) suggests they spice up the bedroom, that poses an immediate problem.

Ally wants more passion, but, stumbling and stuttering, Dave seems incapable of delivering. He fumbles around on top of his girlfriend, making up a countless number of unromantic excuses. First the lights are too bright. Next the covers aren’t completely right. Dave even takes a panic-fueled break to chug an entire bottle of water.

It’s clear that the root of Dave’s neurotic behavior is his fear of Ally finally seeing his package. But played onscreen their hookup stands in stark contrast to the ever sensual, smooth, and sexy entanglements we’ve come to expect from Hollywood. Anyone who’s ever had an awkward night of romance will immediately be able to relate to Dave and, to a higher degree, Ally.

But it turns out Dave can be passionate after all, just not with his living girlfriend. After another disappointing night of sex, Dave drags out his release: a giant, flabby piece of flesh-colored silicon designed to look like the lower half of a woman. That’s the Fuck Me Silly and it truly looks like a nightmare. Dave has no problem making the toy live up to its name. And just to add to to how unfulfilling his real romantic life, we’re treating to multiple thrusting images of Dave’s butt.

Ultimately Ally catches him and that’s what allows the couple to confront their sexual problems. Ally finally sees her boyfriend’s dick, which she exasperatedly labels “just a dick.” It turns out Dave’s fretting and fear of being rejected was all for nothing. If panicking over non-problems to the point of making them catastrophes doesn’t sum up dating in 2020, I don’t know what does.
