When it comes to Insecure Season 4, get ready for “good vibes and witty banter.” On Thursday, HBO released the official trailer for Issa Rae‘s critically-acclaimed comedy, and it looks like Issa, Molly (Yvonne Orji), Kelli (Natasha Rothwell), and the rest of the crew are finally starting to grow up. But not too much, of course — this is Insecure, we’re talking about.
The Insecure Season 4 trailer picks up shortly after the events of the Season 3 finale, which saw Issa begin to reevaluate her priorities as she celebrated her 30th birthday. After quitting her job and more or less ending her relationship with Nathan, Issa finally begins to move forward with her Inglewood block party idea. For once, it seems like things actually work out for her, because the trailer teases what can only be described as a legendary, neighborhood-wide rager. Even the event’s security is into it. “Enjoy, it’s hype in there!” says a security guard. “Oh god, this party is lit!”
Relationship-wise, things seem to be a little shakier. Issa may be over Lawrence (Jay Ellis), but when he starts dating Issa’s mentor Condola, she gets territorial. “L.A. is just so small,” says Condola, during what seems to be a very awkward lunch. “So small. Where are all the good men at?” asks Issa. “Where are your exes? Let me run up on them like you’re running up on mine!”
Innovative as always, HBO’s new Insecure trailer also puts a spin on Issa’s rapping-in-the-mirror sequences. When Issa attempts to gas herself up one too many times, her reflection finally loses it. “I’m sorry, I can’t,” says the woman in the mirror. “I got shit going on over here, too… It’s like your life, but worse.” That’s certainly one way to represent personal growth.
Insecure Season 4 premieres Sunday, April 12 on HBO. Watch the official trailer above.
