What Is Kingdom on Netflix About?

Kingdom isn’t just Netflix’s first original Korean series. It also holds the title of grossest show on streaming.

Written by Kim Eun-hee and directed by Kim Seong-hun, the series is set after the Japanese invasions of Korea in the Joseon period. The supernatural thriller tells the story of Crown Prince Lee-Chang (Ju Ji-hoon), a member of royalty who becomes involved in a mass political conspiracy. In the middle of this looming coup, Prince Lee-Chang is sent to investigate a mysterious virus that keeps bringing the dead back to life. And that’s how a prince becomes South Korea’s only hope of halting the zombie apocalypse.

Filled with vomit, blood, and all sorts of bodily fluids, the series follows Prince Lee-Chang, his personal guard, and a physician as they try to stop the plague’s progression to the capital city of Hanyang. In between dodging the undead, they also have to face off against the prince’s many political rivals. If for whatever reason a show about the apocalypse spread by mass illness appeals to you right now, Kingdom Season 2 needs to be at the top of your list.
