Bill Maher Pleads With Viewers On ‘Real Time’: “Can We Just Get Through This Without Doing Stupid Sh*t?”

Last night on Real Time with Bill Maher, the HBO host delivered a hilarious monologue to an empty studio while also taking the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic seriously. He pleaded, however, with the world not to do stupid sh*t so that we can get through this crisis. Maher also revealed that the show will go on hiatus indefinitely.

“Don’t bump hands, don’t lean in to talk, what I call how you should behave anyway! If you’re one of those people, don’t worry about me, I have already been avoiding you,” added the host while summarizing some of the CDC’s recommendations during this time.

“There’s a new trend in Europe where instead of hand shaking they’re tapping on the elbow,” added Maher. “Why? Why touch at all? What’s the point of touching someone when you meet them, to verify they’re not a ghost?”

“Can we try to just get through this without doing stupid sh*t?” pleaded the comedian. “Did we have to run out of toilet paper? I’m almost out. I was sitting on the toilet today thinking, wow, if only Fox News had a print edition.”

Maher then spoke about the show’s status during this State of Emergency. “So, I have never seen events move faster than during this last week. As I said before, or maybe I didn’t, so let me say it now,” the late night host added. “We are off next week.

“We had a hiatus week scheduled in about two weeks, but we said let’s do it next week since everyone is freaking out and we want to see where this goes,” Maher said to his viewers at home among the presence of panelists Tim Miller, Lis Smith, and FT editor Edward Luce.

“I hope we will be back the week after that, it could be that you are out last panel for a while – no pressure,” the host concluded.

There is no timeline at the present moment for when Real Time with Bill Maher will return to television.
