Dropkick Murphys to Livestream Special St. Patrick’s Day Concert from Boston

Social distancing but still looking to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day? The Dropkick Murphys have got you covered. Tonight, Tuesday, March 17, the Boston-based Celtic-punk band will be playing a free livestream concert for fans everywhere to enjoy from the comfort of their living rooms. The Dropkick Murphys concert begins at 7 p.m. ET and will be available to livestream on a variety of platforms, including YouTube, Facebook, and Twitter.

According to The ARTery’s Jim Sullivan, the Dropkick Murphys first got the idea to do a livestream concert after their three Boston gigs, a run known as “The Blowout,” were canceled due to coronavirus. “It was very quickly put together,” songwriter and co-lead singer Ken Casey told Sullivan. The group will be performing at an unnamed venue in Boston to an empty room, but they don’t expect it to impact their on-stage interaction. “We’re not like a hair metal band that does solos, grinding on each other,” said Casey. “But in passing, sometimes [co-lead singer] Al [Barr] and I like to exchange high-fives and we’ll be giving each other the elbow now.”

The Dropkicks promise that the lack of audience won’t affect their energy level, either. The group has done a few acoustic livestreams, but those are usually done at “level five” out of 10. “At rehearsal, we’re usually on level one, on soundcheck we’re maybe at level three, and on a show, we’re on level 10,” said Casey. However, for their 90-minute St. Patrick’s Day livestream, the group is going all-out. “We definitely talked about the fact that we’re gonna play it like there are people in front of us, at level 10,” he added.

Livestream viewers will also be treated to a few singles from the Dropkick Murphys’ forthcoming, still-untitled album. According to The ARTery, songs in tonight’s set include “Smash Sh*t Up,” “The Queen of Suffolk County,” and “Mick Jones Nicked My Pudding,” plus hits like “I’m Shipping Up to Boston” and “The Boys Are Back.”

The Dropkick Murphys St. Pattys Day livestream begins tonight at 7 p.m. ET. You can watch the 90-minute concert on YouTubeTwitchFacebookInstagram and Twitter.
