The power of Grayskull will be coming to an end this spring. Today Netflix and Dreamworks Animation announced that She-Ra and the Princesses of Power Season 5 will premiere on May 15. But the biggest news to fans isn’t that premiere date. It’s the fact that She-Ra Season 5 will be the gorgeous series’ final installment.

Adapted by Noelle Stevenson, She-Ra is a modern retelling of the classic He-Man and the Masters of the Universe character. The animated action adventure series follows Adora (voiced by Aimee Carrero), a former member of the nefarious Horde who comes to learn that she’s actually the Horde’s arch nemesis: a Princess. By using the Sword of Protection Adora can turn into the legendary Princess of Power, She-Ra. Together with her newfound friends Princess-turned-Queen Glimmer (voiced by Karen Fukuhara) and Bow the archer (voiced by Marcus Scribner), Adora will have to fight to save the world. But along the way she’ll also have to face off against her former best friend Catra (voiced by AJ Michalka).

It’s only going to get more emotional and you better believe the shippers are ready. In Season 5 the Rebellion will have to face the Horde Prime without the help of the Sword of Protection or She-Ra. According to a press release from Netflix and DreamWorks, we can expect relationships to be tested and broken in this long-awaited conclusion filled with unexpected adversaries. On May 15 we’ll finally know once and for all if She-Ra can save the world.

Though it’s certainly sad that She-Ra is coming to an end, it’s not unexpected. Way back in Season 1 Stevenson said that she and her team had a plan to make the series four 13-episode arcs. Considering that Seasons 1, 2 and 5 are 13 episodes each and that Seasons 3 and 4 were seven and six episodes respectively, that adds up to Stevenson’s planned 52 installments. Our queen would never lie to us.

Ever since She-Ra premiered on Netflix in November of 2018 the animated children’s show has been praised for its LGBTQ+ and feminist themes. The critically acclaimed series has been nominated for Emmys, Critics Choice Awards, and GLAAD Media Awards. She-Ra and the Princesses of Power has given the world nothing but incredible things. And we expect Season 5 to be just as magical and heart-breaking as ever.
