‘Better Call Saul’ Exclusive Clip: Nacho Confronts Mike in “Wexler v Goodman”

We’re past the halfway point on Season 5 of AMC’s Better Call Saul, and things are starting to heat up in both Jimmy McGill’s (Bob Odenkirk) storyline, and with the Salamancas. And if this exclusive clip from tonight’s episode “Wexler v. Goodman” is any indication, it looks like Mike Ehrmantraut (Jonathan Banks) has finally chosen a side.

On last week’s episode “Dedicado a Max,” Mike was offered a choice while recuperating from a savage beating in a small, remote town owned by drug-lord Gus Fring (Giancarlo Esposito). He could join Gus, who seemingly offered a better, less destructive way of selling drugs than the Salamancas (who Fring works with); or Mike could let himself literally get beaten until he dies.

Though the epically taciturn Mike didn’t offer an answer last week, by “Wexler v. Goodman” he’s clearly not only working for Fring, but has Nacho Varga (Michael Mando) extremely nervous.

“Guessing there’s something you want to get off your chest,” the recovered Mike says as Nacho approaches him.

“You know who you’re working for, right?” Nacho says. “The shit that this guy does? They shot me, left me bleeding out in the desert, all part of some plan.”

In case you’ve forgotten the tricky twists of Better Call Saul, Nacho is — mostly for his own survival, and the survival of his father — working for the Salamancas, who are currently run by the devious, inscrutable Lalo (Tony Dalton). He also tried to kill the former leader of the Salamancas, Hector (Mark Margolies), before being manipulated by Fring. Specifically, Fring covered up several intertwined acts by fake-ambushing Nacho, shooting him in a car and setting the car on fire. It was all with Nacho’s agreement — Fring told him that he would reveal the attempted assassination to the Salamancas — but still, not cool, bro.

“I don’t know what to tell you. I warned you,” Mike continues. “I warned you, when you started going after Hector Salamanca, there’d be others to worry about. You made a choice. You got in with both eyes open.”
