Self-Isolated Joy Behar Rips Trump on ‘The View’: “Does He Even Care That He Has People Dying?

A little social distancing won’t stop Joy Behar from tearing into President Trump. On Monday morning, Behar returned to The View via satellite, and she was quick to reveal that her “hatred for Trump is increasing” with each passing day in isolation. The longtime co-host continued to blast Trump’s coronavirus response for the rest of the episode, and she called his refusal to invoke the Defense Production Act “unconscionable.” Added Behar, “Does he even care that he has people dying because of him?”

After a week of sitting at home out of an abundance of caution for coronavirus, Behar, 77, returned to The View on Monday morning in rare form. “This restfulness is exhausting,” she told her co-hosts. “I’m more lethargic than normal. I have not been able to maintain six-feet distance from my refrigerator. I can emerge from this debacle morbidly obese, it’s possible.” She added that self-isolation has been “very annoying” and “very enervating.”

But Behar’s jovial attitude ended there. During the next segment, former Chicago mayor Rahm Emanuel joined as a guest co-host, and Behar grilled him about Trump’s reluctance to invoke the Defense Production Act, which would allow the government to mobilize private businesses to manufacture supplies to fight coronavirus. “What is holding Trump up from instituting this DPA?” she asked.

When Emanuel didn’t give her a satisfactory answer — he did offer to mail her chicken soup, which would be helpful if she were actually sick, but she’s not — Behar doubled down. “What is stopping him from doing this one important step? I mean, it’s unconscionable,” said the longtime co-host. “Is he worried about the economy, that the stock market won’t reflect his greatness? What is it? What is stopping this man from doing the right thing at this particular time in history?”

Later in the episode, Behar turned her attention to Trump’s daily coronavirus press conferences. When Sunny Hostin said that “networks should not be broadcasting his 90 minutes of misinformation,” as doing so does “a disservice to the country,” Behar agreed and offered her own interpretation of the pressers. “He cannot have his MAGA Trump rallies anymore where they tell him how wonderful he is,” she said. “So he’s using us instead of the MAGA rallies. And that’s why he makes no sense, because he never made sense when he was doing the rallies.”

It’s good to have you back, Joy. The View is considerably tamer without you.
