Spectrum TV Offers Free Showtime And Epix To Customers Stuck At Home

If you’ve always wanted to sink your teeth into Homeland but never had the time — or the Showtime access — now’s your chance. Charter Communications announced yesterday that subscribers to Spectrum TV now have completely free access to Showtime and Epix programming for the next three weeks. The offer is available for customers who don’t otherwise receive those channels, so current Spectrum TV viewers who’ve already burned through Claire Danes’ spy drama aren’t eligible for the limited-time deal.

In a Monday (March 23) press release, Tom Montemagno, Executive Vice President of Programming Acquisition for Charter, explained that the offer comes with customers in mind who are cooped up inside during the coronavirus pandemic. “We hope that by expanding these programming options it will provide even more hours of entertainment for our customers in these challenging times,” he stated. “The highly-popular original entertainment programming and movies on these networks will be of great interest to a large cross-section of our customers.”

Showtime is home to popular dramas like Billions and Shameless, as well as older favorites including WeedsDexter, Nurse Jackie and The L Word; while Epix counts Godfather Of Harlem and Pennyworth among its original series. Both networks have plenty of movies in their programming too, with titles like Scream and Bridget Jones’ Diary on their schedules.

With the offer of free programming for its customers, Spectrum TV joins other providers who are lifting paywalls and restrictions to make self-isolating a bit more bearable. Amazon announced this week it would be offering some children’s programming from Prime and PBS for free to all Amazon customers, and multiple networks have offered extended free trials of their services. As exciting as free TV is, the offers won’t last forever and there’s plenty of content between Showtime and Epix — so if you’re lucky enough to have access to the deal, we recommend you start queuing up those episodes now (what else did you have planned, anyway?).
