‘The Walking Dead’: Beta Discovers What Happened to Alpha in This Exclusive Clip

Spoilers for recent episodes of The Walking Dead past this point, but if Whisperer leader Alpha (Samantha Morton) is dead, that means Beta (Ryan Hurst) is the new Alpha… Right? Turns out, not only is Beta not going to be the new Alpha, he’s also pretty epically pissed off at anyone who suggests the idea, as you can see in Decider’s exclusive clip from this weekend’s “Look at the Flowers” above.

This week’s episode — Season 10, Episode 14, if you’re keeping track — picks up after the shocking twist at the end of “Walk With Us.” Thinking that new Whisperer recruit Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) was leading her to the location of her rebellious daughter, Alpha discovered an empty shack instead — and a knife to her throat. Turns out, Negan was working with Carol (Melissa McBride) the whole time. The episode ended with Negan dumping Alpha’s severed head in front of Carol, fulfilling his part of their deal.

Though last week’s “What We Become” took a break (as much of a break as you can have in the zombie apocalypse) to deal with Michonne leaving The Walking Dead, this week we’re right back into it with the fallout. Clearly some time between Negan and Carol’s meeting in the woods, and the scene in question, Alpha’s head has ended up on a pike; just like how she decapitated Carol’s son and put his head on a pike last season. Turnabout is fair play, right?

“She was with Negan,” says a Whisperer, helpfully recapping for Beta. “Did he… You. You are the Alpha now.”

“What… Did you say?” growls Beta, clearly infuriated. “She can hear you.”

What follows is harrowing to watch, even by Walking Dead standards, as Beta forces the Whisperer to, er, listen closely to Alpha’s zombified head. What happens next, how Beta enacts his revenge, and whether anyone will survive? You’ll have to tune in on Sunday at 9/8c, or 48 hours earlier on AMC Premiere to find out.
