‘Tiger King’ Is Currently The Number One Show, At Least According To Rotten Tomatoes

Netflix has piqued viewer interest around the globe with a fascinating tale about the proprietors of a roadside Oklahoma zoo, a true-crime docuseries known as Tiger King, complete with a real-life cast of bizarre zookeepers and owners as well as some heavy plot twists.

Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness, debuted on March 20 via Netflix, and while the internet has run rampant with memes about the show, the series ranks as the most popular current TV show, according to Rotten Tomatoes. According to Variety, it has a 97% critic’s rating and a 96% audience score — putting it ahead of Netflix’s Ozark Season 3; Queen of the South Season 4 and The Sinner Season 3 for the top spot.

As of March 29, Netflix is also currently ranking the show as its most-watched title in the U.S. on the platform — we’re talking among both TV and movies — and has been basically in the top 10 since its release.

The series, which may not tickle everyone’s fancy, currently holds a respectable average 8.1 (out of 10) rating from nearly 5,300 users. By that metric alone, however, that means it’s not even in the top 250 TV shows on the site.

The series, created by filmmaker Rick Kirkham, centers his story on Joe Exotic as he delves into the world of big cat owners. Joe can be described as a “mulleted, gun-toting polygamist and country western singer,” according to Netflix’s official description of the title.

SPOILER ALERT! The plot thickens when animal activist Carole Baskin, who owns a big cat sanctuary, attempts to shut down the big-cat breeders by tipping off authorities to a murder-for-hire plot that leads to Joe Exotic’s arrest.

Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness is now streaming on Netflix and we couldn’t think of a better time to check it out now that you’re quarantined at home.
