Is ‘Sanditon’ on Netflix? Where You Can Watch the Jane Austen Show Online

Sanditon was the steamy, dreamy Jane Austen romance we obsessed over all winter while it ran on Masterpiece on PBS. However, now that we’re all cooped up with nowhere to go, it feels like a perfect time to watch Sanditon online. (Heck, even Good Morning America‘s Robin Roberts is recommending Sanditon as a binge.) The only question is where you can stream Sanditon online.

Sanditon, of course, is a series based on an unfinished Jane Austen novel. The author started it right before her untimely death and it dealt with themes and issues not seen before in her work. After Charlotte Heywood (Rose Williams) helps rescue Mr. Tom Parker (Kris Marshall) and his beloved wife Mary (Kate Ashfield) from a carriage accident, she is invited to accompany them to the seaside resort town they are building. There, in Sanditon, she meets the brooding Sidney Parker (Theo James), a spirited black heiress (Crystal Clarke), and a couple of scheming siblings.

Sanditon was written by legendary British television writer Andrew Davies and has a punch of sensuality you don’t usually see in Jane Austen. There are hand jobs in the woods, naked (historically accurate) sea bathing, and one scandalous sex scene. However, the series still has the romance and wit that Austen was known for. Moreover, it is a devilishly addictive series that will keep you hooked to the very end.

During Sanditon‘s run on PBS, you could stream episodes for free after each episode’s premiere. However, now that Sanditon is off the air, finding it can be a little tricky.

IS SANDITON ON NETFLIX?

I’m sorry to say nope! Sanditon is not on Netflix, nor are there any plans for it to hit the popular streaming service.

WHERE CAN I WATCH SANDITON?

Since Sanditon originally ran on Masterpiece on PBS, you can stream Sanditon online with a PBS Passport membership or on the Masterpiece Channel on Prime Video. Of course, you can also purchase individual episodes of Sanditon or the whole season on Amazon, iTunes, Vudu, YouTube, Google Play, or wherever you purchase SVOD. The whole season costs $19.99.

WHAT IS PBS PASSPORT?

PBS Passport is a membership program run by PBS Thirteen that gives subscribers exclusive commercial-free streaming access to the PBS library of content. For $5 a month, $60 a year (or a larger donation), Passport members can stream everything from Sanditon to Downton Abbey to The Durrells in Corfu.

However PBS Passport comes with some real world perks, too. You get the monthly THIRTEEN program guide mailed to your house, discounted entry to museums and restaurants, and 15% off the PBS store. For larger tiers of giving, you get more perks.

WHAT IS THE MASTERPIECE CHANNEL ON PRIME VIDEO?

Maybe the easiest way to watch Sanditon is via the Masterpiece Channel on Prime Video. PBS Masterpiece on Amazon is a streaming service you can opt into in Amazon Channels. As you might infer, the Masterpiece Channel has a huge library of Masterpiece favorites, as wells as online exclusives like Jamestown and Beecham House.

The PBS Masterpiece Channel on Prime Video costs $5.99/month, but there is a free 7-day trial for new subscribers.

WILL THERE BE A SANDITON SEASON 2?

So, here is the sticky, tragic part of being a Sanditon fan: there probably will not be a Sanditon Season 2. PBS’s British broadcast partner, ITV, declined to renew the series for another season. After the show’s run on PBS, PBS also confirmed that they would not move forward on a second season. However, fans are still optimistic that they can save Sanditon.

As creator Andrew Davies himself told Decider in January, “Hang on in there. Keep giving the show all your love because we’d love to give you lots more of it.”
