How to Watch ‘Levar Burton Reads,’ The New Livestream Series From The Host of ‘Reading Rainbow’

Reading Rainbow ended on PBS in 2006, but LeVar Burton is dusting off his books and bringing his old talents back to entertain families at home during the coronavirus pandemic. The Roots actor and longtime Reading Rainbow host announced on Twitter yesterday (April 2) that he’s starting a new livestream series, LeVar Burton Reads. Burton’s new series is based on his podcast of the same name, where he reads short stories for his audience. And this time, Burton will be reading for all ages and reading levels: children, young adults and adults will all have shows geared specifically to their age group.

On March 24, Burton teased his new series to his follower on Twitter. “I’ve been busting my brain for about a week now trying to figure out how to do a live-streamed version of #LeVarBurtonReads,” he shared. “I figured that during this difficult time I could contribute by reading aloud to folks who could use some diversion for themselves and their families.” American Gods author Neil Gaiman offered up “blanket permission for any of my stories” on Twitter for Burton to use in his livestream series, and tonight’s episode features Gaiman’s work.

Here’s how you can watch Burton’s new series:

When is LeVar Burton Reads on?

The new series will premiere on Burton’s Twitter page, @levarburton, starting today at 9/8c. Burton reads on his show three times per week: Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Monday is primarily for children, Wednesday is for young adults and Friday is for adults.

Because he’s reading to three different age groups, Burton has three separate times for each one. On Monday, Burton will read to kids at 12/1c. Perfect for lunchtime viewing! For slightly older readers, Wednesday shows for the YA crowd air at 6/7c. Burton is providing some Friday night entertainment for his adult audience starting at 9/8c.
