Steve Carrell’s ‘Space Force’ on Netflix: See The First Photos

Space Force on Netflix officially has a launch date. The new Steve Carell-led comedy series will premiere on May 29, the streaming service announced today. The upcoming Netflix original comes from the minds of Carell and The Office producer Greg Daniels, and is being sold as a new take on the workplace comedy.

The new series, a spoof of President Trump’s Space Force creation, tells the story of Mark R. Naird (Carell), the new leader of the U.S. Space Force. Naird moves his family to a Colorado military base where he works with scientists and “Spacemen” to return America to the moon and take over space. Netflix announced today that Lisa Kudrow would be joining the cast as Maggie Naird, Mark’s wife. Other names attached to the project are John Malkovich, Diana Silvers, Tawny Newsome, Ben Schwartz, Jimmy O. Yang, Noah Emmerich, Alex Sparrow and Don Lake.

Netflix first announced the creation of Space Force back in January, and the announcement today is the latest development on the series. Since Carell left The Office in 2011, he’s focused on more dramatic roles (in films like 2014’s Foxcatcher and 2018’s Beautiful Boy) and strayed from comedy. Space Force marks his return to the genre, and hopefully he can fill the Michael Scott-shaped hole in our hearts when it comes to Netflix in May.
