Camila Mendes Inherits a Dark Fortune in The Trailer For Netflix’s ‘Dangerous Lies’

Camila Mendes gets a lot more than she’s expecting in the trailer for Netflix’s upcoming thriller. The first look at Dangerous Lies, which the streaming service teased this morning, shows Mendes as Katie Franklin, a struggling waitress who loses her job and takes on a new role as a caregiver for Leonard, a wealthy elderly man. In today’s trailer, Katie finds Leonard dead in his home one day after only four months of working with him. When Leonard dies, he unexpectedly gives Katie his entire estate. Turns out it’s not so simple.

Leonard’s attorney (Jamie Chung) gives Katie and her husband (Jessie T. Usher) the news at Leonard’s funeral, explaining that, “he left everything to you.”  “Everything” includes a secret stash of cash, which Katie and her husband discover hidden away in a dusty old trunk soon after they move into the mansion. “Don’t you think it’s time for us to treat ourselves?” Katie’s husband asks when they discover the secret fortune. As tempting as it may be to splurge with their new wealth, the trailer reminds us: “Fortune comes with a price.”

Enter Mickey (Cam Gigandet), a real estate agent who takes an interest in Katie’s new home. After ringing on her doorbell and inquiring about the house, Katie turns him away, explaining that it’s not for sale. Ben may have left her doorstep, but he reappears, this time watching Katie from his car. “I feel like we’re being followed,” her husband says. The couple grows more suspicious, waking in the middle of night when they hear someone in their home. Between piles of money, handguns and police tape, it looks like the situation only gets more intense. And with the ending of today’s trailer, we see a mysterious hand coming up from behind Katie’s head to cover her mouth. Whatever luck Katie and her husband thought they had inherited, it looks like it’s much more sinister and dangerous than a good fortune.

Dangerous Lies also stars Sasha Alexander and Elliott Gould. The thriller comes to Netflix April 30, and you can watch the full trailer above.
