Zac Efron Joins Virtual ‘High School Musical’ Cast Reunion for ‘Disney Family Singalong’

ABC is here to remind us that “We’re All In This Together,” and they’re bringing the cast of High School Musical to help out. The network is hosting The Disney Family Singalong to unite households in America for an hour-long musical special, and they’re featuring a beloved Disney Channel film cast reunion: the main actors of the original High School Musical movie. Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale, Corbin Bleu, Monique Coleman, Lucas Grabeel and even Zac Efron will all join in on the April 16 event on ABC.

Kenny Ortega, who directed all three HSM movies, confirmed the news to Deadline yesterday (April 13) that 14 years after the first film in 2006, the cast would be joining together again, albeit virtually. Hudgens, Tisdale, Bleu, Coleman and Grabeel all agreed to participate in the special when Ortega contacted them, and Efron confirmed later that he would send a message for fans as part of the special. “We couldn’t reach Zac until late but when we did, he immediately jumped in, of course,” Ortega said. “Everyone we reached out to was quick — and you’ll see it in their spirit and the way they come together from their homes.”

Aside from Ortega’s East High Wildcats, cast members from Disney shows including Descendants, High School Musical: The Musical: The Series and Zombies will all participate in the special. Celebrities like Raven-Symoné, Dove Cameron, Sofia Carson, Booboo Stewart, Sarah Jeffery, Meg Donnelly, Milo Manheim, Joshua Bassett, Olivia Rodrigo, Sofia Wylie, Charli D’Amelio and Dixie D’Amelio will all join. And yes, the singalong will include a rendition of “We’re All In This Together” from the first High School Musical film.

The Disney Family Singalong will be hosted by Ryan Seacrest and feature other celebrity guests, too. The long list of stars includes Ariana Grande, Demi Lovato, Alan Menken, Elle Fanning, Josh Groban, Darren Criss, Tori Kelly, Marcus Scribner, Christina Aguilera, Erin Andrews, Bobby Bones, Michael Bublé, Kristin Chenoweth, Auliʻi Cravalho, Luke Evans, Jordan Fisher, Josh Gad, Derek Hough, Julianne Hough, Carrie Ann Inaba, Little Big Town, Donny Osmond, Thomas Rhett, Amber Riley and John Stamos.

You can watch all of the celebrities and sing along from your own living room when the special airs on ABC April 16 at 8/7c.
