‘Labor of Love:’ Fox’s New Dating Show Has Men Compete to be Future Fathers

There’s Love Is Blind and Too Hot to Handle, but now another dating show is shaking up the already unconventional reality TV romance genre. Fox announced the upcoming premiere of Labor of Love, their new show hosted by Kristin Davis (Sex and the City), and it skips beyond first dates and marriage proposals — instead, it goes all the way to raising a baby. Labor of Love asks its 15 male competitors if they have what it takes to be a father.

All of the men are competing to start a family with the show’s star Kristy Katzmann, a former Bachelor competitor, and it’s up to her who seems like the best fit as a future father. Fox describes Katzmann as “a 41-year old, smart, successful and beautiful career woman who seems to have it all – that is, except the one thing she wants the most. Like so many women in America today, she is ready to have a child and start a family, but has yet to meet the potential father of her children.”

So, she’s been matched with 15 men “ready to let their paternal sides shine.” Throughout the season, the “daddy wannabes” will have to compete in challenges designed to prove how fit they are to be parents, and to prove to Katzmann that they’re the right one to start a family with. At the end of the show, she’ll decide if she wants to settle down with the final man remaining or if she wants to continue alone.

“When I first heard the premise of Labor of Love, I knew I had to be a part of this show,” Davis said in a press release. “I believe every woman should feel empowered to go after their dreams, whether it be professional or personal, and to be at Kristy’s side as she took her future into her own hands was truly exciting.”

The show’s trailer gave a sneak peek at what’s in store for Labor of Love competitors this season. As part of the challenges the men face in competing for a family life with Katzmann, they’ll have to endure a labor simulation, change a diaper on a baby doll correctly and show that they can rock their fake babies to sleep and care for them. “Fatherhood is terrifying,” one competitor admits.

Labor of Love debuts on Fox May 21 at 9/8c. You can watch the full trailer for the show above.
