‘The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills’ Season 10 Preview: Brace Yourself For The Unprecedented Drama To Come

It sounded too ridiculous to be true. The news broke late last year that The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills imploded during the Season 10 cast trip to Rome — due to an alleged affair between current cast member Denise Richards and former cast member Brandi Glanville. Neither are strangers to headlines, ranging from deliciously scandalous to absolutely absurd, but when this one started to pick up steam, viewers thought, “Wait, could this be for real?”

Crazier things have happened, but not on this show. See ya later, Puppygate — this season of the Bravo series is presenting drama that we have never seen, certainly from the women of Beverly Hills, but likely across any of the Housewives franchises. Another perspective to consider is that last season’s Lisa Vanderpump doggie drama was early in the season, while the back half was left to fizzle out. This time around, the drama will all be building towards this Rome trip that takes place in the last handful of episodes. In other words, this entire season could be incredibly intense.

It’s hard to judge a lot of things during a quarantine. Are these Goldfish crackers delish or do I just love snacking now? Have I lost weight or is the elastic on my sweatpants doing me a favor today? And is this season of RHOBH already iconic or am I just so happy to see my TV friends again? And my answer is yes to all of it (well, tbd on the weight loss, but don’t worry Teddi, I am holding myself and not just my sweatpants accountable!).

But the first episode of the season does feel like a warm, glamorous hug from this bunch. This franchise usually returns in the winter, so a spring premiere means we have been waiting longer than normal, and who isn’t ready to embrace Kyle Richards, even if her new fashion endeavor is a bit of a hot mess? It is a bit strange to have this season of Beverly Hills kick off at New York Fashion Week, but there ain’t nothing strange about the way these women are dripping to the max, showing off their most extravagant lewks possible.

Perhaps the most reassuring part of this premiere is that the RHOBH women (and the producers and editors behind them) are never afraid to have a little fun. There is a Lisa moment, and you’ll know it the second you see it and you hear it, that made me gasp at the mischievous actions presented. But the foreshadowing is also present, as the women confront Denise about a legal matter involving her family, and Denise, as strong-minded as ever, is undeterred.

So while the tequila is flowing, the fashion is fierce and the friendship seems solid at first, we all know how quickly things change in this group. For some reason, Erika takes half the women on a journey back to her old stomping grounds to make her seem…relatable? Not normally a word we associate with one of the most extravagant ‘Wives, but okay! Kyle also has each of the women walk in her fashion show which feels like a setup for Teddi after her signature walk became one of last season’s recurring jokes, but she gets her real moment in the spotlight by announcing her pregnancy to the group — and considering baby Dove arrived in February, it serves as yet another moment that can’t help but remind us how much drama-filled time we’re in for watching.

New to this season, and the group overall, is actress Garcelle Beauvais, who is immediately a welcome addition to this group of white (in every sense of the word) ladies, as well as Sutton Stracke, who seems to have her claws out just as much as her Southern accent. Let’s hope these ladies don’t arrive with their chastity belts locked tight like many of the other women wore last season when the conversations turned to what Denise’s husband Aaron was packing his pants, or how they both enjoyed happy ending massages, because this season could contain some pretty seriously frank and shocking sex talk.

If we are gearing up towards these lesbian affair rumors, an unprecedented storyline in this universe, it makes me a special kind of nervous and curious. One one hand, what will this even look like? On the other, I don’t want to see Denise upset, families destroyed, or any kind of sex shaming that may come along with it. As a TV viewer, I am intrigued to see how this could all play out. As a human, I dislike seeing Denise cry in the trailer. But, if anyone in this group is tough enough, it’s probably her.

Last season, I was buzzing for the drama ahead — we already knew Lucy Lucy Apple Juice was fine. This time, I can’t help but feel a wave of apprehension (though an eager one, too) as we begin this season of RHOBH that will go where it’s never gone before. Yes, this group of rich people are also largely fine. But…are they?

And not that you ever wouldn’t, but make sure you watch until the very end of the episode, which is giving me chills all over just typing this.

The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills premieres Wednesday at 8pm ET/PT on Bravo.
