Emmy Rossum is Unrecognizable in Peacock’s ‘Angelyne’ Trailer

Emmy Rossum‘s Shameless days are long gone. In the new trailer for Peacock’s Angelyne, Rossum absolutely transforms into Los Angeles icon Angelyne, who rose to fame after she plastered her face on billboards across the city. Call her the OG influencer.

Long before the days of social media, blonde bombshell Angelyne, whose real name is Renee Goldberg, became a 1980s superstar when she commissioned countless billboards to promote herself across L.A. Peacock’s new series tells the origin story of the icon, as well as her quest for fame. The Angelyne teaser trailer explains it best. “So, what exactly are you advertising?” asks an adman. “Myself, of course,” replies Rossum’s character. “Nobody’s ever done it. Why not start now?”

Angelyne’s billboards — which featured just a photo and her name, nothing else — immediately caused a media frenzy across Los Angeles. In the trailer, Angelyne is interviewed by countless reporters, but none of them seem to understand what exactly she’s promoting. “Angelyne, what exactly are you famous for?” asks one reporter. “I’m famous for being on billboards,” she says, implying that there’s no additional explanation needed.

Clad in an all-pink get up that would make Reese Witherspoon’s Elle Woods jealous, Angelyne takes advantage of her sudden fame and uses it as a platform to uplift L.A. residents. “I am a bright, pink light here to inspire joy,” she says. She pops up in various places around the city, from beachfront volleyball games to Playboy-labeled liquor stores. Just dream hard enough, and Angelyne will be there. The only question: what will she do once she arrives?

In addition to starring, Rossum serves as an executive producer on the series alongside her husband, Mr. Robot creator Sam Esmail. According to ET, Angelyne is based on a 2017 Hollywood Reporter feature on the iconic billboard star written by Gary Baum.

Peacock has yet to set a premiere date for Angelyne Season 1, but it is expected to drop later this year. Watch the official teaser trailer above.
